TPA and bad saliva excess - HELP ME PLZ!!!

#1 Post by Khalil »

hey, i just got my upper TPA on top of my mouth and is annoying me so much.

The worse is that i makes my mouth be full of excess saliva and i have to swallow is every 20 seconds!!

is this normal or what?

or do i have to get used to it?

i have no pain whatsoever, its just this annoying every 30 seconds. I must've had to swallow my own saliva at least 6 times while writting this.

THX for the replies in advance :D

I just got mine on today along with top braces. I noticed the saliva thing too but it went away in minutes for me.... Maybe it will take a little longer for you to get used to but im sure it wont be too long. The only thing i dont like is eating solid foods. i use my tongue to help chew and now i cant do that and the food gets stuck for a second lol

That is a common problem. Your mouth thinks that this thing in there is food, so it is making extra saliva to try and digest it. It will figure it out within a few days that this hunk of metal is not to eat.

Yes,

try to focus your mind on something else.
The moment you do that, you will soon forget this TPA is there. I know, I had
a TPA too. Give it some days and this "thing" will just become a "part of you".
Really.

I'm with Clo, I also have a TPA/Nance and to begin with I was dribbling a lot. The more you think about it the worse it is. Occupy yourself with other activities and thoughts as much as you can and you will get used to it far quicker than if you worry about it all the time.

You will get use to it pretty quick, I did! Its fun to play with it with your tongue, I made some sweet music!

a little off topic but i forgot to ask my ortho.... Is the TPA usually worn for the entire length of treatment, or does it sometimes come out early?

I have to wear mine for my entire treatment, but I remember reading another post where someone got it out mid-way....so maybe it depends on what it is doing for you.

And the saliva thing does get better.

Thx guys for the help.

Today i woke up and it was less the saliva, but still bugs. I guess my mouth will get used to it as the days go by.

And my ortho said my ATP will get out after a couple of months when my teeth get straight.

TPA

Congratulations on joining the expansion (TPA)

I have worn mine (an RPE) for 22 days now. At first (the first week), I HATED the thing. After about 10 days, things improved A LOT, kind of over the span of 2-3 days. Less saliva, teeth less sensitive to chewing with the device and I stopped losing weight, and most importantly

MY SPEECH CAME BACK :D :D :D

I was horrified the first couple of days about the speech part, but what happens is that as you expand along, there's more room for the toungue and announciation returns. Now I can even say THIRTY, FORTY, REACH

I am locking my RPE next week Thursday and will post with progress pics. I am quite please with the effect so far and have seen a lot of expansion and movement as a result of the RPE and headgear that I wear at night. I am not wearing brackets yet though.

Oh and as a last note, I would be careful of playing with TPA/RPE using the tongue as you can easily get sores.

Use salt water rinses as KK recommends - awesome.

I strongly recommend getting a Waterpick to clean out the TPA. You'd be amazed what you will find up there after meals!
