Just a few days to go... but I have a small problem

#1 Post by cheggers »

My appointment for de-bracing (for the top half, with the bottom half to follow a week later) is this coming Tuesday, i.e. just a few days away. Very excited, obviously!
BUT I have a small problem now:
I've been on elastics for a year or so, and for the last couple of months they've been very tight finishing-type elastics. At my last appointment (about 5 weeks ago), I was told that I only had to wear the elastics at night, not 24 hours any more.
Anyway, last night, as I was hooking one of the elastics onto the little loop of metal on my upper wire, the metal loop somehow untwisted and buckled and is now useless as an anchor for the elastics. So, with four days to go until debracing, I can't wear the elastics on my right side (and therefore I'm guessing it's not a good idea to put them only on the left side). My orthodontist is only in the office a couple of days a week and I probably won't be able to reach him before the de-bracing appointment. Am I going to cause any problems by not wearing my elastics for the next four nights? I will be devasted if this last-minute little problem causes a delay to my de-bracing! Grateful for any thoughts!

Meryaten wrote:You've been wearing these elastics for quite some time now - I should hope that things are sufficiently stable (as close as you are to debanding) that it should not matter if you stop wearing the elastics 4 days early. In any case, it seems you have little choice, since your ortho is not available.
Thanks Meryaten. Yes, I think you're absolutely right, I'm just getting a little jittery at this last minute stage!
