Sonicare question

#1 Post by Evelyn »

Hey! Sorry I haven't been on here much lately, I've been really busy with college apps and all that fun stuff, but I finally got a sonicare toothbrush for christmas :D and I have a question about it. It's about charging it. I put it in the charger overnight and everything but the light stops blinking after about a minute on the charger thing, which I think means that it should be done charging, but when I actually go to brush my teeth it just kind of pulses, turns on and off, on and off, on and off. I'm not really sure what to do, seems like it should be charged more, but it's been on there for about a week.

Any Sonicare afficionados out there who can help?

Thanks so much, ~Evie

Hi Evelyn,

I hope life has been well since you had your braces removed. Are you adjusting well to your retainer?

In regards to the Sonicare toothbrush, I can't remember for sure, but I think initially it had to be charged for about 12-14 hours(???). But, placing it in the charger overnight should give you some time using it. What you're describing doesn't sound right. My suggestion is, depending on the store's return policy, if you have time and if you haven't already done so, be sure to read the instruction book about charging and be sure you are pressing the correct button when using the toothbrush and if it still works the way you described, exchange it for a new toothbrush. If you don't have much time due to the store's return policy, exchange it now.

I have had two Sonicares in the past 6 years (?) and have never had this problem.

Good luck and keep in touch.

Happy New Year!

Thanks ssfw! When the sonicare is charging, does it light up at all in the handle? I'm not sure if it's supposed to or not.

I've adjusted real well to life after braces, it's wonderful and so definately worth it. I actually like my retainer, I've got a permanent one on the bottom and a hawley on top which I just wear every night and take out during the day. After all the bad hype about retainers I have to say I was a bit worried but they're really no problem.

Hi Eve,

My Sonicare stays lit (on) when it is done charging. Every now and then (this does NOT happen several times a day, just every now and then), the light does a "recharge-like" motion (kind of like a rolling/on-off charge"), then it goes back to the lit (on) mode within about 5 seconds. When it is charging it goes through a "rolling (there area about 5 green lights in individual sections to each of the light panels and each light lights up and turns off when the next green light lights up). When it is done charging, all of the green lights stay on to form a mini rectangle. I hope this makes sense to you. I couldn't think of another way to describe it.

Sonicares are great so if you think there's a problem with yours, return it and get another one.

Where are you applying for College? What's your major?

Great, that you adjusted well to your retainers and it's great that you only have to wear your upper retainer at night.

Keep us posted.

Yeah, that does sound pretty weird. I've been using my Sonicare for nearly two years, and I never had something like that happen.

I don't remember what the initial charge suggestion was, but I remember using it the same day. For mine, when it's charging, it does the rolling green light thing, and then when it's charged all of the lights stay lit. Then when it's low on battery, at the end of my brushing, it beeps a couple of times and the lights flash yellow.

I'd see if I could get it exchanged if I were you.

Hope senior year is treating you well. Where did you apply to school? Still playing the clarinet? I've been thinking about taking mine off the shelf and ordering some etude books again. I miss playing everyday like I did back when I was a band geek!

Howdy,
I got my Sonicare a while ago and I really like it - it's worth the money to me.

But, I had a problem when I first got it. Depending on the model that you got, there can be a "break-in period" which is a slower brushing speed. It's called the "Easy-start" feature. The speed steps up over 14 days, and I think there was actually some type of light and/or noise to tell you that it was in the slower speed. It was a while ago and I don't remember all the details. My brush didn't transition to the normal mode over the period of time that it was supposed to. I read the manual (when in doubt, read the manual!) and I couldn't fix it, so I called Sonicare. The person I talked to was very helpful and I was able to fix my brush!

So, you might be in the startup period? Or, there might be something in your manual to tell you what to do. Or, you could call Sonicare about it. Hopefully, you will get a resolution to this quickly.

Thank you so much everyone for your responses! I decided to give their little toll free number thing a call and the lady there said that they'll send out a replacement handle and charger, which should be here in two weeks :D

Can't wait until it works, my teeth are itching for a good brush;)

Alexa, I'm still playing clarinet 100%, actually I've got district auditions this saturday, which I'm kind of not ready for but I'll give it my best shot. Getting my braces off really improved my playing a lot, and in november we had chair auditions and I got first chair which was really exciting!

ssfw, I'm applying to 6 schools, so far I've sent in West Virginia University (they have a good dentistry program), Purdue, Notre Dame, and of course, my favorite, Virginia Tech :D I've still got to do Michigan and Penn State, it never ends...
