next adjustment - Jan 29???

#1 Post by snaggletooth steve »

Maybe I'm just too demanding, but I was trying to schedule my second adjustment and was told there are no appointments open for the next ELEVEN weeks!? And its been a week since my last adjustment. The Dr said he wanted to see me in six weeks. I knew the adjustments would go to eight weeks eventually, but since we just started and have some complicated things to do he made it clear he'd be seeing me a little more often for now.

Still... twelve weeks, that's two and a half months... isn't that a bit long between adjustments? I don't want to make waves but I'm very serious about this braces business. It is not a fun thing to go through and there is no need to extend my time in them because they have too many patients to handle in reasonable time.

I should have made it last week but was in a hurry because of a job that day. It was the first adjustment and I just didn't think about it until the next day. They did the adjust and said see ya! LOL

Anyway, I'd rather have a little closer following in this first few months.. still, you've seen a million posts by now and it sounds like 12 weeks isn't unusual. That's good to hear.

If you are concerned that the ortho intended for you to come back sooner, maybe you could ask the front desk staff to check with him? That way, your ortho can make the decision that either it is okay to wait the 12 weeks to the open appointment, or that he wants to see you before that and will tell the front desk to squeeze you in somewhere. Also, most offices have a cancellation call list, so you could ask to get on that in case any appointments open up in the 6-12 week timeframe. But asking the ortho if it is okay to wait that long should ease your mind about the wait (or get you in sooner). Good luck!

Steve, I've had to wait a few weeks longer for one appointment due to school holidays/ortho's schedule. I've since gained a bit of time on other adjustment intervals. So what you lose on the swings you pick up on the roundabouts...

I don't leave after an adjustment without making my next appointment, as this is the best opportunity to get one's preferred slot.

29 January will come around pretty quickly (that's what I find so scary!)

I had to wait a long time between adjustments during my first year in braces and finally came up with this solution. As soon as my next adjustment date was set, I also scheduled another adjustment 6 weeks after that.

So for you, contract them now and ask for an appointment 6 weeks after Jan 29. Then just keep booking your adjustments in advance and it should work out much better. The only trouble you may have is if you need a longer appointment and have only booked a short adjustment session. Good luck.

I have alot of luck with making my appointment before I leave and making my appointment when the kids are all in school. I am practically guaranteed to get an appointment when I want one that way. Good luck!

12 weeks are pretty long...but maybe you don't need as many adjustment? :?:

My appointments are every 4 weeks...and they get scheduled right after my adjustment each time.

Twelve weeks sounds like a long time, but mine are every three-four weeks so if I went from four weeks to twelve I'd flip. Although going twelve weeks sounds spectacular. Taking hours off to go to the ortho every 3-4 weeks seriously cuts into my work and consequently my pay.

it might sound bad, but i've gone 2 1/2 months as well [check my blog] while i was waiting to change orthodontists after i moved- its very frustrating, but your teeth won't stop moving because of this period of time. Right now, you probably have the initial wire on [i suppose?] and it shouldn't overall make a huge impact in the length- be patient and let me know you are concerned that this length of time between should be reorganized, because i assume other patients are frustrated as well
Braces off- 12 months 1 week in braces- estimate 18-21 months!

I know how you feel Steve, my appointments have always been 6 weeks apart, but my next one is nearly 9 weeks from my last adjustment.

I wasn't exactly over the moon either, especially since it's getting close to debanding date with some problems still to be sorted out, but my ortho does a lot of teaching and post-grad work so he tends to be away quite a bit. That coupled with the Christmas/New Year rush meant I had to wait longer than usual.

Oh yeah, plus I moved my appointment back a couple of days so I could make my work Crimbo Party. Priorities! :-88
