Jonesing for Elastics????

#1 Post by sedona »

I have worn elastics for 2 months - triangle on the right & class 2 on the left.
My ortho had me stop wearing them two days ago and I have been incredibly sore ever since.
The elastics created a very good bite and now it seems as if they are migrating back to their original position.
Has this happened to anyone else?

Yep! Sometimes I wonder how permanent the changes that the elastics make really are.

Yes! This happened to me. I even had the same elastic configuration!

I decided that the ortho knows best, so I went with her suggestion. I thought my teeth were going back to their old positions, but I waited it out, and my bite felt better after a while.

Now, I have a class II elastic only on my left side... I'll admit I'm not wearing it as much as I should... but it seems like my midline is being over-corrected now that I've had this elastic for 5 months. After I've had the elastic out for a few hours, my bite feels so much better than when it's in. I think this is very strange. When the elastic is in, only my left molars meet, and when it's out, everything touches. :?

Thanks! I really do hope things settle down soon.
My bite seems really out of whack as opposed to how it was with elastics.
I'm really wondering if they were halted too soon.
