10yo and surgery

#1 Post by Good Thanks »

My 10yo saw 4 specialists last week who all concurred that she needs surgery this year. However, because it's not ALL medical, she will need to give consent, and after explaining all the surgery to her, she sunk back in her chair and said "NO WAY". She is experienced in hospital life, with having being treated for cancer at age 3, which lasted 2 years.

If she doesn't have this surgery now she will definately need it as an adult. All 4 specialists said if it was their daughter they would be going ahead with the surgery. I'm unsure why they even asked a 10yo to be honest but as it stands I have to now convince her of the benefits.

So for me to explain the benefits I think I need to understand the recovery, the pain involved and the end results.

Can anyone share their experiences please?
