Son getting braces on only top 4 teeth and bottom 4 front

I'm not sure why my son of 12 is only getting brackets on his top 4 front teeth and his bottom 4 front teeth. My orthodontist was not too specific about why this is. He had 6 teeth pulled to make room in his small mouth. He will still have arch wires connecting to the anchor on the 4 back molars. Does anybody know why he will only have 8 brackets in his mouth for the entire 2 years he'll be in braces?

I don't see any gaps where teeth were pulled(unless baby teeth were yanked to make way for adult teeth). Are they planning to use molar bands around all the rest of the teeth without brackets?
