Okay, I had my adjustment today and I asked about it --- he was rather rushed and kinda gave me a funny look when I mentioned the "sucking on my teeth". He said he couldn't really do anything about that right now... actually, he didn't really answer my question completely. I'm not sure if ...

I had that happen on the bottom... and when I went in for another SOS appointment related to something else, he physically squeezed the chain together - the gap was gone - but it hurt!

Sometimes an ortho will tell you what HE is doing, but he doesn't necessarily have to explain to you what the tech is going to do. Good bedside manners are developed and if you want the tech to tell you what they are doing to, ASK THEM to tell you --- I told my ortho this when I was getting my inita...

I got lots of comments in the beginning asking why I got braces because my "teeth were already straight". I told them it wasn't for cosmetic reasons, rather medical. "Braces for 1.5yrs sure beats taking migraine meds everyday for the rest of my life!" I get comments at work when ...

I get a salty taste in my mouth sometimes too, but I have bad acid reflux. I usually attribute it to that... and or irritation causing some bleeding now and then. I know my lips bleed a lot!

Just do the fluoride rinse when you wake up in the morning then, it shouldn't be that big of a deal. The trick to the rinse is to not eat or drink anything for 30minutes afterward. I usually use it before work because by the time I get to work and settled, the 30minutes have passed and I can have my...

Chains do hurt, as I have a powerchain on bottom. The pain I felt after it was put on was much worse than a normal adjustment for me - but the results sure came a lot faster.

Manual toothbrush, soft bristles -- don't care what shape really... I change my toothbrush at least once a month, so I just get whatever I can afford.

Your teeth are shifting because you have room. They will do this on their own when they are allowed to, but they could also shift into the wrong places this way -- thank goodness you are getting braces  You will be okay, just make sure you mention this to your ortho when you see him.

Yes, powerchains can just be placed between a couple of teeth --- I had this happen between two teeth in back and then I ended up with a powerchain covering MOST of my bottom teeth, not all.

JustAskJulie --- Braces can help TMJ or make it worse. I know I signed a medical release when I started braces explaining how my jaw pain could literally get worse... which was freaky... but without braces, my jaw pain wouldn't be getting any better because I have TMJ. My TMJ has gotten better and t...

The jaw issues are more than likely related to your bite changing, which is normal when you first get braces. Your bite will continue to change and adjust throughout braces. Some of the pain might also be caused by your teeth not moving together just quite yet. It took my jaws about 8weeks before th...

I have an incredible orthodontist's office too! This is normal for the Damon System, which prides itself on fewer appointments and shorter treatment time. The only thing I know for sure about Damon's is that the appointments are much more spaced out than with traditional braces, as I have Damon's but had a consult for traditional braces --- tradi...
