Re: Why do adults get braces if results don't last?
This is my hawley retainer. I really can't see how its possible for my teeth to go anywhere with that thing planted firmly in there every night for the rest of my life! I have one on the bottom too..

Re: can flossing recede gums
You should floss right up underneath the gumline to where the gum is attached to the tooth. Go right up there and run it along that gumline, gently of course. The little flap of gum in between the teeth that isn't attached may shift a bit when flossing, which is what may be giving you the appearance...

Re: Please help with retainer selection!
If you are 100% compliant with your removable retainer wear, are permanent retainers even beneficial? You can definitely get away with just the removable retainer if you are compliant. But if you're wearing them 24 hours (say for the first year like some orthos prescribe) they can be annoying havin...

Re: 4 days in and thinking of giving up
Braces are an extremely foreign object placed in there full time, it's a shock to your cheeks/bone/gums/tongue. It takes a month or so to adjust, and when you do you'll thank yourself if you stay the course.

Re: Please help with retainer selection!
Seriously?! I can't believe the people I went to highschool with are still wearing their retainers. I was told at my first orthodontist (before I moved) that I would only have to wear the retainer for 2-3 years. I have noticed that many people I went to school with years ago that had braces have cr...

Re: I just knew I would come home crying:(
Go out and get some more consultations. I know you mentioned you have to pay for them, but really that cost is only a drop in the bucket compared to what full treatment is going to cost. And who knows, maybe the cost of treatment for another ortho whose treatment plan you like better could be a litt...

Re: Having braces removed temporarily
Just have the upper social 6 or 8 brackets and wire taken out, that would be fairly simple and would give you a brace free smile(unless you show a lot of bottom teeth when you smile).

Re: How are people coping with permanent retainers?
Here's my problem with all this though. When I first looked into getting braces (got them in my late 40's) I read that the way braces work is by pushing and pulling teeth around in the bone that holds the teeth. A gap is formed in the bone on, for instance, the right side of the tooth when that too...

Re: Question about positioner wear
I don't have an answer.
But just curious as to why you can't wear it at your military exercise. Do they have some stupid rule about no orthodontic appliances, or is it just that it would be inconvenient?

Re: Tooth has moved but Hawley isn't correcting it
Call about it. My front teeth were starting to flare out again(wasn't really visibly noticeable, but i could feel it in the way my bite came together) and so the dr. tightened the retainer and within a couple days the teeth were back to the same as the day my braces were removed.

At my first appointment, I had brackets and spacers applied but no wires. A week later I had bands fitted and wires put in.

Re: What to do during the braces process?
Ipod is not a good idea, you need to be able to communicate back and forth with the person putting the braces on. The time passes really fast getting them put on.
