I appreciate the discussion generated by this post. Please understand that it is not meant to scare anyone, or suggest superiority of one provider over another. Take the information for what it is. I have addressed some of the concerns of the board below: Ormco has successfully demonstrated - with a...

I wonder if Invisalign is also reviewing the complexity of cases with their client orthos and directing more complex cases to those with more experience if necessary? Align Technology doesn't have any direct way of referring patients to doctors based upon the complexity. The only thing they can do ...

Hi Dr. Tam, Interesting article, thanks for posting it. I was wondering if the same holds true for all types of self-ligating braces or if this is specific to DBS? We're neighboors btw, I'm in the west end of Toronto! :) Hi Thunderkat. I hope your treatment is going well out west :). The Damon Syst...

A recent study using Cone Beam CT technology shows that claims made by Damon System proponents are unsubstantiated. Read more:

Of course, Invisalign have stopped short of naming the number of cases required. It might be 30 in Boston and 3 in Edinburgh..... Actually there is a specific number for new graduates/newly certified, and one for established certified doctors. They have made it slightly easier for those who ...

Invisalign moves to ensure quality providers
This is some breaking news that may interest you. There are two major reasons for negativity about Invisalign: 1) poor patient compliance and 2) poor treatment planning by inexperienced doctors. Only the latter is something doctors can control. As you can see from the forums, there are far too many ...

Hi Wobbydeb I don't mind posting responses but I'm not sure this is the way to use the forum. I would prefer that any future new posts be directed to everyone on the board, rather than specifically to me. It is very difficult to comment on specific clinical situations. Hope you can understand. That ...

I definitely appreciate the orthodontist/patient communication aspect and understand the perception. There are always two sides to every communication. This is where a properly trained team comes into play. Our staff have a written protocol for each procedure. They are required to be able to answer ...

Our patients (in Canada) without insurance have found that it isn't worth it to opt into a plan when they begin treatment (unless group). They realized they didn't save enough money, especially since most treatment is covered at only 50% to a lifetime maximum. This makes sense since insurance compan...

The staining should go away. With braces, we recommend are patients increase their frequency of cleanings. The mouthwash commonly causing staining is Chlorhexidine, mainly used for periodontal patients. My personal view is not to whiten right after braces come off. It is mostly the resin that is rem...

Could be a situation where the tooth is tipping instead of translating... Imagine a pencil on the table... when you push it from the eraser end, it tips. If you push it from the middle you can get it to translate across the table. This is a common occurrence when closing a larger space, especially i...

Could be that you're not keeping the area as clean as you might think. Another possibility is that there is some excess bonding resin or primer that is still on the teeth from your bracketing appointment. This can leave your teeth more susceptible to staining. It is nothing to worry about since it w...

Rotating canines can be one of the most difficult movements with aligners. However, they can definitely be moved with proper planning and cooperation. The proper attachments, rate of movement, and order of movement are very important. Also, being extremely diligent in wearing the aligners full time ...
