Re: What happens if you can no longer aford your payments?
I imagine every practice has a different policy regarding failure to make payments. I know that at my ortho they will attempt to arrange a different payment plan. If you can't afford them at all they will either halt treatment until you can start payments again or they will book you in to remove you...

Re: Braceface Greeting Etiquette
I usually say "ooooh braces! Me too!" and give them a big teethy grin. Sometimes a conversation starts, sometimes they look at me like I am insane.

Oldest person I know of having treatment is my brothers father in law. He's 68. If that helps any.

Not everyone gets them. You might be one of the lucky ones. You'll just have to ask your ortho.

Re: tartar build-up
I have been using an electric toothbrush for most of my treatment. After brushing my teeth I run it lightly along the gumline to massage my gums and make sure everything is clean. I know that this works, for me at least, because I went in for my check up and cleaning today and my dentist didn't do t...

Re: Lisping
I had a lot of 'shushing' going on. By that I mean the letter 'S' became 'Sh' and lots of words without an 'S' still ended up with a 'Sh' either at the beginning or end. This resolved itself quickly thankfully. I had trouble with the letter 'L' after my first adjustment but that was only only for a ...

Re: What was your primary reason for orthodontic treatment?
I had always hated my teeth and smile and wanted it fixed. I was also concerned about my top front teeth because they had been moving slowly forward over the years and I was starting to get pain. Biting into things was also starting to become painful. My grandmother passed away in 2010 and left enou...

None yet and I'm almost 12 months in. I have lost/broken/eaten B4 elastics but not had loose brackets.

Re: Ortho Work- Your advice!
Only an orthodontist can tell you whether or not you are a candidate for lingual braces. As for the rest I don't see why it can't be fixed, or at least improved, by braces. Seen teeth much worse than yours fixed up. Make an appointment with an orthodontist (or 2 or 3...) and see what they think.

Orthodontist. The therapist did all of the prep work but the application of glue and brackets was all done by the ortho.

Re: Sleeping with braces
I had trouble sleeping in the beginning because of the braces digging in. I had dry mouth at night time and the braces would stick to the insides of my mouth and the digging in of brackets would make me wake up in agony. Most of the time the pain left as soon as I moved my head, unstuck my mouth and...

Re: Does anyone actually have traditional metal braces anymo
There seems to be a difference of opinion as to whether or not ceramic braces are just as good as the metal ones. Some orthos say it doesn't make a difference and others say it does. I have ceramic uppers and I think that they are less noticeable. Most people don't notice that I have them until I me...

I do, but only pale ones so if I get it on my braces it's not really obvious.
