Re: Musings on a year in braces

Went for six month checkup and cleaning today. My regular dentist was off but his associate who last saw me three years ago just before braces checked me over. When she saw my fixed retainers her first words were "Was Dr. D. your ortho? Those fixed retainers are his signature. No one else aroun...

Re: Musings on a year in braces

Dee, Sorry to hear the upper fixed bothers you. My upper one encompasses six teeth, and I am only aware of it when I am not involved in anything. It doesn't bother me at all, just gives my tongue something to play with. My lower involves eight teeth, and I can barely feel it at all. To me, the only ...

Re: Musings on a year in braces

I'm out of braces for a year-and-a-half now but was reviewing this post and thought I could be helpful. I made some minor changes and a few additions. 1. The worries about the reaction of others was totally unfounded. Nobody else cares. 2. Braces won't impact your social or professional life unless ...

Re: How do you clean your retainer?

I was told very soft brush that they use at the ortho's office and antibacterial liquid soap. Seems to work. Been doing that successfully for a year-and-a-half.

Re: Worrying about my teeth after last adjustment.

Whenever I had this type of concern I discussed it with my ortho who always took my concerns seriously. As many have said, sometimes things get worse before they get better. But you have the right, and the obligation to yourself, to have the discussion. What I can say is that the problem you are con...

Re: Still Unhappy With My Teeth...

Obviously we are not experts here, but it seems that you would need quite a bit of room in your arches to move your teeth back. Extractions probably are your only option. Most likely your dentist doesn't want to say anything negative about another professional in the business, especially if he recom...

Re: Still Unhappy With My Teeth...

[quote=]Thanks for this. I'm glad someone else can see what I do. I've been unhappy with the results since I had my braces removed but I've just never found the courage to speak to my Orthodontist about the matter. In the initial consultation I had there was some mention about having four teeth remo...

Re: Not long to go

I was looking at taking part in the Color Me Rad 5k run later this year but not sure if coloured corn startch getting in my mouth would discolour the braces or not.
Just do the run and have fun. You're overthinking this!

Re: confused regarding braces

You always have to get past the marketing and past the dentists (and some orthodontists) who use invisalign as an easy way to make a buck. Go to a 3rd or 4th consult with different orthos, then make a more informed decision. Many of us have had the experience of completely different takes on and app...

Re: Still Unhappy With My Teeth...

I hate to say this, but I certainly would be unhappy with this result as your front upper teeth protrude substantially. That said, when you went for your consult what did your ortho say could be accomplished? Did he recommend extractions, but you didn't want to get them? That would certainly comprom...

Re: Are my teeth "bad enough" for braces? Chickening out, he

Didn't your ortho check the bracket placement? My ortho always does the bracket placement; the techs do the prep work. I understand your concern about your lower bracket placement and agree the bracket on your lower right incisor looks misplaced. I suggest you call your ortho's office and ask to hav...

Re: "But your teeth are fine! Why waste money?"

Before I got my braces my massage therapist, who had some minor overlapping of her incisors, talked to me about getting veneers, or possibly braces. She started the conversation by saying to me, "Your teeth are virtually perfect." Had to laugh, as I was thinking about getting braces as I w...

Re: clear ceramic braces vs metal

The ceramic brackets don't stain, the rubber ligatures do, especially the clear ones. They can use steel ligatures to tie in the wire to the brackets if staining becomes a concern.

Don't believe that "no pain, no gain" stuff. I never had any pain through my treatment. Sometimes minor discomfort, but never anything more. It depends on your body and mind.
