Re: Personal ladies question

No worries. Nurses see so much of bodies and the stool, urine, emesis, and blood that come forth from them that we don't give it a second thought. And I've been on both sides of the gown...If you're bleeding, they'll place a chux under you so your bedding doesn't get bloody. That's what they did for...

Re: This can't be right...Please help

Hi MrNovember I'm from Alaska. But, I've seen from various websites that the total fees for sliding genioplasty are 5-8 grand. How can there be such a discrepancy? I'm giong to have to go back next week and ask that they petition the insurance company to pay a part of the OR associated costs. Otherw...

This can't be right...Please help

I found a good doctor to perform sliding genioplasty. He's charging $5200. I called the hospital today to discover the OR costs. On the low end it's $14,000, but on the high end it's $33,000. This is unbelievable. How can this be? I have checked various websites regarding this procedure and they all...

Re: Tomorrow-1st consult...would like input

Hi Huggypillow-Thanks for your reply. I am going to rehearse what I'm going to ask, actually I'm going to make a list. I know time is limited, and I want to be as thorough in my questions as I want the doctor to be in his answers. Sometimes we do feel we need permission to ask questions, I know. I w...

Tomorrow-1st consult...would like input

Hi everyone.

Tomorrow is my first consult with a maxillo to talk about sliding genioplasty. What questions should I be prepared to ask?

Thank you

Re: Getting lower jaw surgery or going for my dream job

I understand your dilemma. For me, it's 'do I get the operation' or 'do I go to Turkey.' I want both, but only one dream at a time. If I go to Turkey without the operation, I will carry with me the nagging, self-conscious voices I've always dealt with. But, if I get the operation first, then Turkey ...

Re: Prepping-excited

yeh, I hear ya. I have 2 consults set up here in AK. Both are said to be really good. I think it must be right. I mean, this place is so SMALL that if these docs were in the habit of producing a bad result, word would get out in a heartbeat. They have to be good. So, I got to see the preliminary res...

Re: Prepping-excited

Tomorrow I am going in to have the i-CAT scan done. I am so excited, but a little nervous too. I am kind of dreading getting in there and finding out my jaws are assymetrical. I know they are, I just don't know if it'll be something they/we decide to fix. Oh boy, I don't know what kind of can of wor...

Re: Prepping-excited

Well, I'm one step closer to getting my sliding genioplasty. I went back to the ortho yesterday to get some referrals. I have decided to see 2 Maxillofacial surgeons here in town. On the 13th, I'm going in for an iCone scan, something that shows all tissues and positions of bone in the skull. The or...

Prepping-excited

I have an appointment lined up with my ortho in October where they'll be taking xrays. Would an xray show asymmetries or issues with my tmj? What information are they preparing to send the OS? In what instance would they need a CT?

Thank you

Re: Finally had my Orthodontist appointment today

Hi streo-I haven't found that to be true, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong places. PS seem to be big on implants and downplay SG as a procedure that takes longer to heal and is invasive. Maxillofacial surgeons have thoroughly studied bone structure of the jaws and know how to manipulate bone for a...

Re: Thinking about a sliding genioplasty

Hi H.Todd-- I don't have any answers yet, but I'm in the same boat. The folks on here are so helpful too! My process of research has been to type 'sliding genioplasty' into the search field, then scour all pages the search provides me. There's lots of names of doctors that come back. Then I go to a ...

Re: my current pics

Thanks Minerva. I feel like this is something I've always wanted to do. Funny how, now I have the funds, it's finding the right doctor that's the issue. I should've started this crazy search years ago, lol!
