Form or Function ?

Reading some of the posts on this forum recently has brought to my attention that some people are having treatment more for cosmetic reasons (looks / a nice smile) while others, like myself are undergoing treatment for functional reasons, the nice smile I'll hopefully end up with is just an added bo...

Thanks LadyTrOuble, I've been trying everything possible to avoid the darn spring, but as you say it isn't always achievable. To make things worse for me the spring is on the upper rear left premolar, bearing in mind that I'm right handed. My stupid left hand has to try to do the fine and delicate w...

Coil spring thingy

I've had this coil spring thingy on my upper archwire since getting my upper brace installed on Sep 12 2007, I assume it's there to open a gap for one of my premolars that is in a cross bite situation. The problem is when I floss around said premolar the floss sometimes gets snagged on the spring. H...

I have had Damon 3's since early september, and as Joney and Jordanna say, I too have stoppers on my archwire (they look like small metal tubes crimped onto the archwire, one on each side of one of the front brackets), perhaps your ortho forgot to crimp these stoppers on your archwire as my ortho di...

Last week I went in to have a loose bracket rebonded, so the assistant asks how I'm adapting to having braces (I was braced early September), to which I reply that I've had minimal discomfort so far. After looking in my mouth she says "Oh, you're not complaining because you only have the uppers...

I reckon that must be some sort of a bite plate. Sorry but I can't help with advice on how to chew with one, because I'm still looking forward to the day I get mine. My ortho told me I will need a bite plate when my lowers are placed, but that hasn't happened yet. Good luck and if you figure it out ...

Hey there lildreamer, welcome to the club!
To quote some invaluable advice bestowed upon me recently "If in doubt, call your ortho and let him/her decide what to do (after all that's what you're paying for).

My favorite was Biltong (I think you guys in the USA call it jerky, its basically dried spicy meat strips), but my ortho specifically warned me not to eat it as it has a stringy texture and gets between even the closest of teeth making cleaning almost impossible (apparently the damage is usually don...

I've had Damon 3's on my upper arch since my treatment started a month and a half ago, and the only debonding issue I've had was on one of my premolars (the bracket came off twice now) but I believe it must have more to do with my tooth than the bracket as none of the others have been a problem. As ...

Hi Jordanna, I have similar damon braces. When my ortho suggested these for my treatment I was also worried about staining, so I asked him about this. He told me that they won't stain as they do not have ligatures (those little rubber thingies) which are usualy the part of braces that stain. So far ...

You're really lucky Higgy, I had to visit the ortho's office again this week because of a bracket coming off. I have no idea if my archwire breaking and the bracket coming off are related but both happened within 48 hours of each other, this after almost 4 weeks of plain sailing.

I called my Ortho first thing this morning, and arranged an emergency appointment. Yes, it appears the archwire did break (apparently these thin heat sensitive wires can get brittle where bent), but the Ortho wasn't too stressed about it, just put a new one in! As I said before, thanks a ton for all...

Thanks a lot for the advice, it appears to be unanimous that I should get hold of my ortho. I'll do that right away!
Once again thanks for all the great advice, you guys realy put my mind at ease! :)

Help! I think I broke my archwire!

I had my uppers braced with "Damon 3's" (self ligating) 3.5 weeks ago. The back molar on each side wasn't wired in for whatever reason, but the wire stuck through the front molar's tube on each side until after I ate my meal this evening. It now just ends somewhere in the front molars tube...
