Kerry I totally understand where you are at. I was the same way. I just wanted to get the surgical part over with. Having braces are a piece of cake compared to having surgery lol The worst part for me was the liquid diet for 5 weeks in my case and the dreaded rubber bands to help shift my jaw which...

Its when your jaw returns to its previous state similar to before surgery. For example, Say if you opted for BSSO set back to correct for an underbite. After surgery your lower front teeth would sit behind your upper front teeth. A relapse would be where your lower jaw would start to show signs of a...

Looks like everyone is moving along. My outside looks is also subtle. I was told I would look different but I don't look that much different. Some people say I do look different. I don't really see it. I do noticed that my bottom lip is poking out as much. I saw the ortho for the first time post op....

Well most of my swelling was gone by day 10 but almost all swelling was gone by the 5th week. I have very minor swelling on the left but no one really notices it until I point it out. As far as eating, I was told that I could technically eat a day after surgery but due to my midline issues, I was ba...

It is true that a constant force applied to a bone will adapt to compensate for that force. Wow I never thought I would be using my grad school education on archwired. Well this is all according to Wolf Law which states that bone will adapt to the load that is being placed upon it. But in this case ...

thanks for the responses but I am pretty well informed on what the limitations are for each. I just wanted to know if anyone had a similar experience to mine. Originally I hated the thought of braces but come to think they are just fine. I guess I will just talk my ortho when I see him on wednesday.

I will try to help out since this is a little in my area and background. The mandible (lower jaw) is a unique joint. The are 4 basic movements. Elevation (open mouth), depression (closed mouth), protrusion (stick out your jaw) and restrusion (bring itback in). The jaw is designed to allow these move...

Traditional braces, oral surgery, and invisalign?
Have anyone went through this process? When I originally saw my ortho I inquired about invisalign. I found out that he is a premier provider. Well of course my case was way too complicated for invisalign alone so he said I would need braces, surgery to correct the underbite, then use invisalign to f...

Well I had a whirlwind of a day on wednesday. Basically I am free of bands. He is happy with my bite and said I can start eating soft foods. I can progress slowly to chewing. Ive tried to chew but with all the incisions and absorbable sutures, I am definitely not ready to chew. Plus I have a knife o...

Talking was frustrating. I was pretty much a hermit when I was tightly banded up but I had to go back to work. People said they were shocked that they could understand me so well. From my point of view, it felt like I wasn't clear at all. The hardest thing is you can't really project your voice. I m...

I am still banded tightly but i go in on wednesday and I am hoping they will take off these bands as they are past the point of annoying. And if they don't come off there will be a fight in the exam room LOL Im no longer crav...
