I have very sympathically read your posts. I know how frustrated you must be. Have you considered upper jaw surgery to close your bite? I know it is not what most would want to do but you have been through so much with all this. I look at your pictures and see the same type of bite I had (only you h...

Thanks Brandy- I'm still trying to figure out what the difference is between doing SARPE and having the palate widened during upper jaw surgery? I posted this somewhere else and it wasn't ever resolved. Are you suggesting they are the same procedures? If so why would the SARPE people keep the expand...

Hello- I had the same surgery (upper, lower and genioplasty) as you on July 13th. I wanted to ask if you have had a plastic splint in your mouth since surgery? My upper jaw was widened and I've had a splint attached to my my top braces since then with a palatal arch bar. I am concerned about my uppe...

Hey There- Congrats on the milestone of getting back to work. I go back a week from tomorrow. How are your doing? I seem to be at a stand still with the swelling and numbness only slightly better over the weekend and last couple of days. One good thing is that I can finally feel my very lower chin f...

Actually my Ph.D. was form Florida State and I'm a Seminole at heart!!!!! Anyway, I bet the difference in procedures was that I didn't have an overbite but there was a real goal to reduce the open bite and the vertical dimension of my face and that made it necessary to move the upper jaw quite a bit...

Interesting measurements. My lower jaw was advanced 7mm, the chin 6mm and the upper jaw decreased by 5mm (somehow with advancing and upturning my chin the vertical dimension of my lower face was decreased by 10mm total). I find it interesting, you and I both had open bites. It looks like most of you...

Hello- My right nostril and sinus are slightly swollen still. I think this contributes to the conjestion. The nasal stuffiness on that side is slowly getting better as the swelling goes down. I have/had been using nasal spray since my surgery and the surgeon (yesterday) said to wean myslf off of it....

Great on moving on to the next stage. I've got 2 more weeks before I can chew. After having an open bite my whole life until surgery, I can't imagine what it will be like to be able to actually bite into something like pizza, a sandwich or a bagel. I guess there is relearning for everyone. Is the nu...

Second Post-Op Visit

Hello- I had my second post-op visit today with my surgeon, 3 weeks after having upper, lower and genioplasty. There was much good news. First, I will have the splint taken out on August 16, just about two weeks away. What a relief as I will beging teaching again shortly after that and I was worried...

Hello- I am three weeks (today!) post-op from upper and lower surgery and genioplasty to correct an open bite. Numbness is still an issue in my lower lip. With both lower jaw advancement and genioplasty, I expected this. It is hard to deal with because you likely feel (as do I), I went through all t...

Haaaaa....I'm laughing at the discussion of "fine foods" a few replies back. I'm just the opposite (mostly because I'm lazy from a food prep perspective  ). However, for those who like easy food fixes post-surgery (I had upper and lower jaw surgery and genioplasty so my eating has bee...

Hi Anabel- How is it going this week for you? I'm happy that the swelling keeps going down. I've also regained some feeling in my teeth if that makes sense. Before it was like I didn't even feel them when you brush them. It's still not 100% but it is better. I've regained alot of feeling but my lowe...

Phil- I'm wondering how much crowding you have in the upper arch. The one thing I do remember being told was that SARPE is used when large expansion space need to be gained and the LeFort 2 when a decent enough arch can be gained prior to surgery (meaning the expansion space needed usually isn't so ...

Thanks for those great photos of the actual surgery. I'm glad I didn't see those before my surgery. I have a question for those who had the SARPE. I had my upper palate widened during upper and lower jaw surgery. Within two days I had a gap between my front teeth that has bascialy stayed the same wi...

Hello- Definately add me to the "asymmetrical" club. My swelling, although really diminishing is really more present on the left than right in my lower lip, chin and cheek. I've got a bit of tilted look when I smile (or try to) which drives me crazy. Hope it goes away really soon. Other th...
