Singing in braces

Congratulations on your big day! I am at the beginning of the journey, so it's inspiring to read of someone at the end. I am also an avid singer and I was wondering how my braces would influence my singing. I sing as a soloist and in choral groups as well. Is it going to stop me from singing words q...

Comebacks for Unsupportive Comments

I haven't even got my braces on yet. I have been telling others about my intentions, mostly because I'm so excited about getting my teeth straightened finally at the age of 42. I last looked into straightening at the age of 31, but was told I would have to remove a tooth. Now that we finally have en...

Thanks, dagwoman, for your input. I'll try to be more realistic/pessimistic about the time estimates. I tend to hope for the best, so I'll try to temper my expectations. I wouldn't get hung up on time estimates. That's all they are- estimates- and a lot depends on the individual's reaction to braces...

Thank you, Maverick, for your help.
How long have each of these Orthos been practicing? Who has the most experience? Which one do you feel most confident in? I feel most confident in Orthos 1 and 4... I guess now it's a matter of whether the extra cost is worth the time s...

Hi again, Archangle, Prices are generally set, someone had 6 month treatment not too much work required $ 5500, it's the whole 'package' from start to finish including follow ups, monitoring etc. etc. not just slap the braces on, fix and that's the end of that.
Thanks for your continuing hel...

Thanks, ArchAngle, for this and your earlier input. I am so glad I posted originally. Hearing from everyone has definitely clarified the issues for me. >
Go with 4, what is he, 6 and 4 hundred more than 3 and 2. Note his time though 12-14 months vs 20-24 and 18-34. Sage a...

Thanks for your input, badbite. >
If you trust your dentist(Ortho 1), why not go with her? You'll soon see that the braces themselves are not big deal. I have regular ones and forget they are there all the time. People don't look at me funny or anything like that. Save the ...

Thanks for replying, platinum. I was very interested to read your advice since you also have a unilateral Class 2. I also have 90% of my lower teeth covered by my upper teeth when I bite down, and some type of overbite as well. Thanks also for the links. I am definitely leaning toward 2 and 4, but 4...

Thank you, Purpleteeth, for your advice. I am surprised that your Damons were quoted as cheaper than other options. My friend, a dentist, said that the wholesale cost of the Damon brackets was higher. I also know that Damons require less chair time, so it makes sense that they are cheaper... Very co...

Thanks, Meryaten, for your help. I feel confident in all of the orthos' expertise... I chose them based on their apparent experience and for Orthos 2, 3, and 4, that they are offering self-ligating braces. Unfortunately, I can't eliminate anyone based on their ability based on the little information...

Thank you, jt2lang, for taking the time to give me advice. It is very much appreciated. I am pretty wishy washy in the first place. Makes me wish I stopped at just one consultation... All of them suggested that the bite would be "fixed" and that I would have to wear retainers. Ortho 4 said...

Different ways, different quotes

I've seen FOUR orthodontists now for consultations. I have a unilateral Class 2 (with Class 1 on the other side). Here is what they recommended. Ortho 1: Regular braces, 24 months. No teeth removed. $4500. Ortho 2: Damon braces, 20-24 months. No teeth removed. Bite turbos for 3 months, and elastics....
