Been to see my dentist today. Luckily, the dark mark I noticed was only staining and polished off, yay no filling! She had a quick look while I was there and said that everything looked really good so I'm pleased that I must be doing a good enough job with the cleaning. I forgot to mention:...

I have linguals upper and lower (don't know the make, here in the UK we don't really seem to have brand names, or we do and I am just ignorant!) I got them purely for vanity reasons, I'm a teacher and I didn't want my pupils to know. I did have a lisp for the first month and I think it was mainly th...

Hello and congratulations :-)o on deciding to get braced. I noticed that you posted on Martin's thread that you live in Bristol- me too! :D There doesn't seem to be too many braced adults in England so it's always nice to find another. I also have linguals (top and bottom), how are you finding them?

Just to add to all the good advice already given, swilling your mouth with warm salt water twice a day will ease the painful tongue situation and should help it heal up quicker. I find mash potato with peas, gravy and cut up sausages quite easy to eat, breakfast cereal is good for a snack if you let...

Just wanted to offer my encouragement and wish you well on your braces journey. Well done for deciding to go through with it. I know how hard a decision getting braced and the accompanying extractions is to make (I have a dentist phobia). Good luck for finding a babysitter. Keep us update...

Thank you LaLaDee, Miss Smiley, Jenny and shoezy for the lovely compliments. :D The extraction site has pretty much healed now although my gap still seems HUGE . I need my teeth to get moving quicker to fill in the gap! I have noticed a small dark mark (which I assume to be the beginning of a cavity...

Yay- only a week to go! It's perfectly normal to have niggly doubts now that you have a date. Before, you knew that you were gonna get braces, now you KNOW you're gonna get them! I still had doubts about whether I would go through with it whilst driving to get them fitted. Don't forget you're doing ...

Welcome BracedVeryLate Just wanted to wish you Good Luck for the start of your braces journey. I had an extraction last week and it was nowhere near as bad as I expected (and I have a fear of dentists!) Like Melissa, I was worried that the gap would make me self-conscious but I've almost forgotten a...

Hi Bonnie Belated congrats on getting braced :-)o I have molar build-ups which has made eating difficult. I found the best way to get used to them has been to cut food up really small so that you don't even have to chew it. That way if you find it difficult or painful to chew you can just swallow th...
