still can't chew :(

I got my Herbst appliance a week ago and I still can't chew solid foods very well! The appliance moved my jaw forward, and since I'm correcting a deep bite my back teeth no longer meet with the appliance in. My ortho said that my back teeth should be able to bite together again within a week or two ...

Hey metalmo , I have a Herbst Appliance too, I just got mine. Glad to see that I'm not the only adult with a Herbst. How long did it take your back teeth to touch again after getting your Herbst? Or did they always meet? It's been almost a week for me and still only my front teeth bite together, so ...

I had my third adjustment on June 12th. The ortho looked at my mouth and said that next appointment I would have impressions done for the Herbst appliance. He also said that I would be getting a chain, a powerchain in other words, on top. I was glad to hear this, because a small gap had formed betwe...

I haven't posted in awhile, as my spring/summer was very busy, but I since I just got my Herbst appliance I thought I'd update. Let's see. . . since the last time I updated I worked a different job, moved, turned 20, and got a new boyfriend (yes, while wearing full metal braces! it CAN be done!) :he...

It's normal to feel scared, I did! But don't worry, it is not painful for everyone, I haven't had too much of pain although my bottoms hurt a little when they were put on. Any pain you have should pass within a couple of weeks. Stick with mostly soft foods during this time, although trying to chew s...

I just got light pink ligs on the tops today, and what did I do? I ate Indian curry for dinner, and the ligs turned peach-orange

Lavendar and baby blue never changed color on me, though.

I play college rugby, and I've played several rugby games in braces, no damage done! Make sure you wear a mouthguard, though. I happen to own a totalguard, it's bulky and I can't talk very well with it on, but it fits over the braces and it's worked so far. But yeah, there's no reason why you should...

When I got braces almost three months ago I planned to give up all those "no-no" foods, but, well, it didn't quite happen that way. I eat all the things I used to, including popcorn. I just couldn't give up the buttery popcorn, although I eat it much more slowly and carefully, one piece at...

I'm estimated at 31 months. I've had top braces for almost three months and bottoms for a little over a month. I'd be nice if I could get them off before I graduate from college in May 2009, but I'm not counting on it, that would be 4 months early! I guess it'll be over when it's over. . .

I had 3 consultations, and the third time was a charm for me, because that's who I chose, and I have no regrets.

ugh, I hated spacers, and for me they were worse than the actual braces. They hurt so much, and by the time I could sort of eat regular foods again the top braces went on (which weren't painful but threw off my bite for several days which made chewing difficult). As KK will probably tell you, it rea...

Before braces, I only drooled in my sleep when I was overtired, but now I drool every other time I sleep! It's because with all the hardware in my mouth my mouth tends to hang slightly open when I sleep, I try to keep my lips closed when I lay down.
