Re: I'm starting to notice...

Man, I must be the only one who hasn't seen any other adults with braces! When I got mine put on (6 months ago) everyone at the ortho office and my regular dentist's office kept telling me I'd start noticing lots of other adults with braces...but it hasn't happened! I've only seen/met one other pers...

Re: First time with elastics

wheels498, I feel for you. I've been braced for 5 months now, and I also have the front turbos so my back teeth don't touch either. I've been in elastics from day one: the first 3 months they went from upper #4 to lower #7 on both sides, to pull my lower jaw forward and correct my overbite. Now for ...

Re: Funny thing! Anyone else?

It's weird, but for the last few weeks my elastics break like clockwork at the 2-hour mark. If I notice it's getting close to 2 hours since I changed them, I almost start wincing when I talk because I know they'll snap at any moment. First one will go, then the other will go within a couple of minut...

Re: Move lower teeth back?

I think so...mine are! My wisdom teeth (all 4) plus the last lower molar on each side were pulled a long time ago when I was about 18 (I'm now 53) so I only have 14 teeth on my bottom arch. There was extra space at the back of my mouth where the missing molars used to sit, but all my other teeth had...

Re: What freebies did you get from your dentist?

Hey Nuna and Dan, I think we are all 3 alike! I too made the decision almost immediately after my appointment, then later started researching and wondering if I was ready...but it was too late to change my mind. In truth, as the date got closer, my dentist was w-a-a-y more excited about my upcoming ...

Re: What freebies did you get from your dentist?

Lorsa, extra water inteake is good but probably the bathroom breaks are more frequent too! and not only to brush the teeth:) I will remember your tip regarding water swishing! It is nice your husband is 'helping out' at meals. I hope my boyfriend will be supportive too and embrace me getting braces...

Re: Weight loss

7 weeks in and I've lost 4 pounds. It would probably be higher if I hadn't indulged in so many milkshakes and ice creams for the first 3 weeks.

But now that I've discovered white wine is a passable substitute for my beloved red, my weight loss will probably stop :) .

Re: What freebies did you get from your dentist?

...Is it only me or were you worried about eating in public with braces?... Nuna, you are definitely not the only one - I think we all were worried about it at the start! I think everyone adjusts to the idea of eating in public at their own pace. For the first 3-4 weeks I wouldn't really eat much i...

Re: Best portable water flosser?

I use the Waterpik Cordless Plus (better than the basic cordless). So far I really like it. It's not as powerful as the corded models, but for a cordless one it works great.

Re: Crest Pro-Health Toothpaste is the worst!

OMG! I went away for the weekend and used the new travel-sized tube of toothpaste that was in my go-bag. Couldn't figure out why the inside of my mouth felt like I had been eating a ton of salt by the 3rd day. Thought there must be something in the water that burned me. Then I came home today and re...

Re: What freebies did you get from your dentist?

I tried the cordless version and thought it was worthless. It is good for inter-office pranks, but little else related to orthodontics. That was my worry! that a 'lite' version will lack in performance... the big waterpik would take half of my carryon luggage! I use the Waterpik Ultra at home (you ...

Re: Question about getting second molars braced...

Why would they band the second molars later in treatment? I don't see how my ortho is going to get my rectangle wire to bend up to my back teeth... Well, my appointment is tomorrow so I'll see what she does soon! I don't know. Being a newbie I didn't question it, I just went along with it. How did ...

Re: Who knew these tiny blue spacers could hurt so much....

...How are your energy levels with them on? Are your energy levels much lower in that it is harder to eat? Sorry Urban, I can't comment on eating with spacers because once I had the braces on, none of my upper and lower teeth touched each other. I haven't been able to chew at all, I'm on a totally ...
