Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies

I still pop on every couple months. Nozzel, that super sucks you have to get Invisalign after all you've already been through! Hopefully things go better this time with the new orthodontist. Keep us updated! As for me, my TMJ has been acting up lately. After the surgery in 2015, my jaw naturally pul...

Re: Moving out of area after get retainer - anyone done this?

I not only left the area, I left the country. I moved away while I still had braces. Fortunately it was only a 90min drive, but I did go back several times. Once the braces came off, I think I went back for two or three follow up appointments for my retainer. I'm guessing by your post that you're to...

Congrats Nozzel!!!!!!!!!! I'm a few weeks late but congrats nonetheless! How has it been getting used to life post-braces? Will you be in 24h retainers for long?

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies

Tentative removal date; JULY 20th!!! Getting a lower bonded retainer, Hawleys, possible Essix for daytime use. Might even try a positioner for some final movements and sleeping jaw position; so I can't clench or grind while giving me an opposing force to press on teeth instead of holding my jaw ope...

Hmm maybe a little but not a lot. I think I'm just used to it now.

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies

That's great news that things are finally coming together for you, Nozzel. And snap, keep us updated on your plate removal! I had my appointment yesterday with my surgeon. They did a quick x-ray and he said I've had zero relapse and that I am officially done; no more appointments. I asked about the ...

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies

Hey everybody! Long time no see. Nozzel, I see you're still in braces. Patience of a saint, I saint. Do they have any clue when they might debrace you? Next week I have a 3 year post-op appointment with my surgeon. Things are mostly fine. Still some lingering numbness in my palate, and one of my tee...

My ortho only gives retainers for the upper arch. I have permanent wires on both the upper and lower front teeth as well.

Re: 4 Weeks Post-Op: Jaw exercises not working?

I'm glad the vlogs are helpful! I didn't talk about it TOO in-depth, but I went for about 3-4 months last year, once a week. The physiotherapist would do manual stretching which was a little awkward (think hands in mouth) but felt effective. They weren't long appointments; maybe 10 minutes maximum. ...

Re: 4 Weeks Post-Op: Jaw exercises not working?

Just in case someone is Googling around for an answer to this, I'm gonna post an update. UPDATE: Don't freak out! Take a deep breath! It's gonna be okay! My surgeon did not cast me out during my appointment when I admitted my jaw still can't open past one finger. He did seem mildly disappointed, an...

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies

Ahhhh yes another appointment today. A few more bends in the wire, more elastics (up to 3 now,) and another appointment scheduled. Getting closer but still feel so far away. I don't check this forum every day anymore but my eyes bugged out when I saw you updated. I don't know how you're doing it. I...

Re: Lip incompetence persisting 1 year after surgery

Hi there, sorry to hear you're still having issues. I had a class II and open bite as well. In 2015, I had a one-piece Lefort I, BSSO, and a sliding genioplasty and I still have lip incompetence, too. I will probably never know exactly why, but my guess is because of the scar tissue from the sliding...

Re: question about midline elastics

I have a midline elastic after my surgery in 2015. Definitely do not double up. I found that just wearing the one eventually caused my midline to over-correct, so I can imagine that two elastics would make that problem even worse. Follow your orthodontist's orders. I think I used the 6 1/2 size as i...

Re: Life after splint removal

Hi kegreen, congrats on getting your splint out and making it to 6 weeks! You're over the worst of it now. It's normal for the rubber bands to hold your mouth closed. I didn't have a splint but it took awhile to get back to chewing normally. Your chewing muscles have most likely weakened from lack o...
