I just came back from a regular dental appt today. Took almost twice as long as usual because the hygienist did an excellent job of cleaning around the braces with the wires in place. My dentist took a look and said, "Wow, you are going to be really pleased with the results when it's all done. ...

Tobacco (smoking or chewing or dipping) inhibits blood flow and bone growth/development, and does a number for sure on oral tissues. People who use tobacco are generally expected to loose teeth beginning in their 40s, assuming they begin as teens. Aside from that prediction of the AMA and others, it...

My partner and I are doing braces together. We've had a few appointments together but mostly not because of treatment and work schedules. My brother is now thinking about it, but we are not living in the same state so doubtful we'll have same ortho etc.

Don't mean to lecture but:

1) smoking interferes with bone growth and stability and will lengthen and possibly compromise your ortho treatment

2) you've heard the other health issues

3) there are all kinds of great options out there to help you quit now

4) ok said enough

joe, I don't have a time frame other than 18-24 months initial estimate. Originally I was going to loose a few teeth but things were moving so well the ortho said he could do this without extractions IF I could see myself using headgear. Well here I am. I suppose once everything is where he wants it...

several kids/teens in church with braces, but none in the choir at present. I'm the only adult showing any mouth metal.

I don't have any sinus issues (unless I have a bad cold) but have to say I'm used to the pressure now and it feels "right".
