Re: Double Jaw Surgery-- Not Sure if I want to Do It.
Just dropping a final update on this whole jaw saga--- I went through my revision ortho and revision surgery. Surgery was Feb 2016 and my team of docs really knocked it out of the park. I am so fortunate to have found these guys to fix the mess I was left with after my first surgery. If anybody is i...

Re: Getting ready for revision surgery!
TODAY i talked to my surgeon and he apologized for his mistakes. He admitted that he didn't consider my preferences properly. And he told me he will do revision surgery for FREE. That's a good thing. But i'm also so sad because my face will never be completely okay. He told me that there is also as...

Re: Should I have gotten upper jaw surgery
You need time to adjust to your new face. You also had a vision of exactly what you'd look like post op and it sounds like you didn't quite end up with that exact vision and you're unhappy. That is a risk of walking in to this surgery with an exact picture of what you think you'll look like post op...

Re: Should I have gotten upper jaw surgery
Valerie-- this is Ashley from fb. I kind of don't know what else to say about this at this point. You've cross posted on multiple boards, groups, forums, etc, and pretty much everybody has told you the same thing. The other surgeons you've talked to for second opinion have basically fallen in line w...

Re: Advice and thoughts on switching doctors mid-treatment
If you have concerns about your team, now is the time to do something about it. Something didn't sit right with me about my first surgeon. My ortho sensed my unease and talked me out of backing out of surgery (at least with her, and very possibly anybody). It was a big mistake and the red flags to m...

Re: Kaiser Los Angeles Michael Bundy or Julian Wilson?
I was 30 for my first surgery, and despite it being wrong, my recovery went pretty well. Double jaw no genio. My revision was just this Feb and now 32. Revision recoveries are always much harder, and this one definitely was. So, depending on what you have done and how you react with anesthesia and h...

Re: Kaiser Los Angeles Michael Bundy or Julian Wilson?
Wow that's terrible. You'd think with so much experience these situations could be avoided. I'm going to look around and see what the cost is for a top notch surgeon in my area. Thanks for the information. There are some really great names in SoCal-- You've got Arnette, Gunson, Relle. If you want t...

Re: newbie here, question about insurance or cheap options
Thanks for your responses. I will go to a surgeon and see if I can somehow get my insurance to pay for it Do you guys have any tips for that? I already did a sleep apnea test and I don't have it Sometimes the need for surgery is not always sleep apnea related, so you might still get it covered. Get...

Re: newbie here, question about insurance or cheap options
I really appreciate you guys' comments. That's why I came to this site because I figured I could get good advice. After reading what you guys said, I will definitely not go to a cheap surgeon but what if I went to a good surgeon? LyraM45, did you go to a cheap surgeon or why did your surgery turn o...

Re: Advice for a 20 y/o who needs corrective jaw surgery
Third, are you in the US? if so, what state? research some plans on your state's insurance market. If you are in CA, get Kaiser! they have a solid reputation for covering the surgery. I've got to respond to the Kaiser bit-- To the OP: I highly advise against them. Please read my blog regarding my E...

Re: Advice for a 20 y/o who needs corrective jaw surgery
I never had insurance growing up, so I never saw a dentist let alone an orthodontist and a maxfac surgeon to fix my jaw. So, I went on with life until I couldn't ignore it any more. Luckily for me, I was 2 years out of college, employed, and had good insurance for the first time in my life. So, if y...

Implants With Braces
I got braces put on in 2013 and only needed an implant on a missing back molar. It was decided to do it after my braces and jaw surgery. Long story short, the braces and jaw surgery went terribly wrong and treatment had to be redone. I found out with my new ortho and surgeon that the roots of my 4 m...

Re: Splint out/new wire in...on my anniversary. Will I be too sore to eat that night?
Nice! Yeah, 6 weeks you should be a little in business, especially if you've been able to stretch and get open that much already. I forgot to ask, were you banded shut that whole time? I was assuming so, but I am guessing if you are at 3 fingers, then you've probably been getting to open a bit. I go...

Re: Kaiser Los Angeles Michael Bundy or Julian Wilson?
I would avoid Kaiser all together. Please see my website http://www.confessionsofametalmouth.com and read up on my Kaiser experience. I have helped council quite a few other Kaiser botched cases to 1.) get on a path to retreatment, and 2.) seek legal advice. I just met another California patient yes...

Re: Splint out/new wire in...on my anniversary. Will I be too sore to eat that night?
I don't think you'll be doing much eating after your splint is out. Not sure how far post op you are, but usually you're not doing much chewing then even if your surgeon clears you for it. More than likely you'll be cleared for soft chew. I'm surprised they are going for a wire swap for you so soon ...
