Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...
Awesome, hope you're excited! Do you have any problems with your TMJs? Has your doctor spoken to you about condylar resorption? It's interesting that the genioplasty isn't present in the surgical plan, I assume that is because the surgeon wants to check soft-tissue response after positioning the ma...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...
Glad you got your VSP report! My surgeon sent me mine at my appointment as well - he said he can send the soft-tissue version my way once it's done. My VSP: Screen Shot 2018-04-21 at 12.22.07 PM.jpg Lots of movement, it seems...which I was aware of, but it's crazy to see the actual plan. Feeling muc...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...
Did you guys get to see your VSP or cephalometric tracings? I just had my pre-op visit to meet with the surgeon to go over the surgery, but he didn't have a "final VSP done yet." Needless to say I was extremely disappointed I didn't get to see any renderings or predictions... I'm having L...

Re: Was Your Virtual Surgical Planning Covered By Insurance?
Not sure if this is helpful, but I just received my itemized receipt from my surgeon, and I feel like there's no reason this shouldn't be reimburse-able? VSP charges were listed with the following bill codes: CPT 70486, Under Diagnostic Radiology (Diagnostic Imaging) Procedures of the Head and Neck ...
Upon further research I've found a new CPT Code which I believe is more accurate: 21085, Under Head Prosthesis Preparation: Impression and custom preparation; oral surgical splint
I think you're right - seems ...

Re: Was Your Virtual Surgical Planning Covered By Insurance?
Hi there! So, same exact situation on my end - surgeon told me that VSP would be the only aspect of the surgery that I'd have to pay out-of-pocket; payment would need to be made upfront upon scheduling the surgery. The way his coordinator spoke about it made it seem as though this wasn't a case-by-c...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...
I stand corrected - just got my pre-op paperwork, which includes: Lefort I with Bone Graft BSSO Genioglossus Advancement Arch Bar Placement Officially booked for May 9 :D A bit later than I hoped, but will give me more time to plan for being OOO for almost a month. Figure it's better to go in with a...
Do you need any CCW rotation or a genioplasty? Both will dramatically improve lower third strength if you have any mandibular deficiency.
Yes, definitely CCW rotation - my surgeon said this would yield the best result for b...

Re: April 18 Surgery Buddies...
I don't yet have a surgery date set in stone just yet (waiting on the hospital, of all things), but should be booked early-to-mid April! I believe I'm getting a Lefort 1 and BSSO; primarily to resolve severe obstructive sleep apnea. I've been fighting my health insurance for coverage for the past tw...

Re: Time Off Of Work - MMA Surgery
I'll second that rec for The Wire :D (definitely watch with closed captioning - it adds a whole new dimension to the show, and helps with understanding some of the stronger B'more accents). My surgery is in April (exact date TBD), and I'll be taking off two weeks, then working from home for two weeks.
Great, it sounds like you should be very excited! Having multiple physicians confirm your diagnosis/treatment plan is great sign and getting approval should be very routine for them. Even if it's another 6 months before your surgery...

Re: Requisite CPAP Trial (Fep Blue)
Congrats on your surgery approval - you must be stoked! I'm in the same boat as you were - mid-twenties, diagnosed w/ severe sleep apnea in January, and currently battling my insurance to get MMA approval. I'm very fit and active, so weight is definitely not a contributing factor, and both my surgeo...
