The sonic cleaner is optional. It adds a little more oomph to the cleaning with the vibration, but the tablet itself does a pretty good job.

The first 2 or 3 weeks will be a little difficult. It's weird feeling something like braces under your lips. And the braces will rub against the insides of your lips and cheeks and be uncomfortable. Using dental wax helps make this feel better. Also, you may ask your parents to get you either Bioten...

Mouthwash Leaves Pieces of Gunk in My Mouth!

I hate to knock new products, but I tried the Crest Pro Health mouthwash yesterday. It doesn't contain alcohol and is supposed to make your mouth feel and smell fresh for hours and hours. After brushing my teeth as usual with my Sonicare and Mentadent toothpaste, I rinsed and then swished around som...

Probably closing the top gaps would throw off your bite because you'll have more teeth on the bottom than on the top. That would be my guess.

However, (IMO) your ortho should have told you that you'd have to deal with the gaps until the other extractions were done.

If you want to whiten them before you get braces, I would recommend that you stop whitening at least 3 weeks before getting the brackets on. This way, if your teeth or gums get sensitive from the whitening gel, you'll give them adequate time to "recover." Also, check out the ArchWired page...

I know that sometimes if you need jaw surgery (for example), the teeth are straightened first, and then the surgery (or expansion) is done. Then braces may be put on again to finish correcting the bite. Dr. Randall can probably answer this question better!

Well Butterfly, you sound a lot like me before my treatment. I had a bunch of consultations over a 10 year period and actually did chicken out after a full set of x-rays and molds, when the ortho told me I'd need headgear (I ran for the hills, LOL). But then later I found the ortho who treated me an...

Isn't it neat to see your crooked teeth finally look straight after all those years? I remember going through a period of time -- when they first got rather straight -- I'd look in the mirror and feel like "somebody else's nice teeth" were smiling back at me. 8)

Floss Popper? Anyone?

Has anyone's ortho ever given them a Floss Popper? If so, did it do the job well and make flossing any easier?

Yes, I've heard that if your teeth are very crooked (at the beginning of treatment), they might not stay in place as well as when they are a bit straighter. Perhaps I should add some wording to that effect to the product description. I don't want to mislead people. We'll also be carrying a "lip...

I could never use the Superfloss until my crowding got better. The Crest Glide Threader Floss is a great product for people with tight spaces because it is so thin and slippery. If you truly can't get the floss between those teeth, try to use a rubber-tipped gum stimulator to get under the gumline o...
