As an engineer, I would have to say that they would not snap off due to temperature. The difference between the coefficient of expansion in the teeth and the cement should be very similar and not cause undue stresses when exposed to temperature shock. I have one bracket that cuts up my tongue, but that is because the tooth is so far back and my ortho still does not have enough room to pull it foreward. The brackets are pretty sharp when there are no ligs on them.

Funny thing is that I never used way for a poking wire. I have used it to cover a overly cold sensitive tooth though. Kept the cold air and water off of it while it moved.
