Re: Lip piercings and braces?

I wouldn't advise it. You're asking for trouble. If you want to get a lip or tongue piercing, wait until your braces are off.

Re: hardware removal

I'm not any sort of expert in jaw surgery (and didn't have it myself except for some extractions) but you might want to look into finding a physical therapist who does TMJ type treatment. There are some around if you search. They might help loosen up your jaw and help your shoulder when you are at t...

Re: Looking for advice on treatments for 8 y.o

Orthotropics is not really based in solid science, and you are wise to be skeptical of it. Holistic thinking is good for some things, but jaw problems is not one of them. IMO, you should be getting opinions from qualified orthodontists. Get several opinions. There is no harm in seeing 3 or 4 orthodo...

Re: 44 and few questions on braces

Hi, I registered on this website a month ago and I decided to go for braces (It is not really a decision but more related to my tooth 21 that needs an implant). I'm creating a blog related to this topic that can be found on this great archiwired forum. But I have some questions. Now that things get...

Re: Remove amalgam from molar

I don't think that these things are related. When I had braces (granted, it was more than 10 years ago), my orthodontist didn't have a problem with it. I opted to have my amalgam fillings changed to white composite afterward because of the way it looked. But that was totally my own decision. You sho...

Posting a survey? You need to be vetted first.

Hi everyone! It has come to my attention that a researcher is mass-posting a survey for the members of this message board. Before anything like that is posted on this site, I must vet the member who is posting. I do this to protect you guys from possible scammers or people with dubious agendas. I pe...

Re: Getting a sleep study done

My husband and I have both had sleep studies. You go to the facility in the evening and they hook you up to a lot of wires all over your body. That is a bit awkward. Then you eventually fall asleep. IDK about other places, but at our facility it was OK to take a sleeping pill. They monitor your brai...

Re: I wouldn't recommend linguals

I'll jump in with my 2cents. I got braces when I was in my early 40s. I chose ceramics on top and had metal on the bottom. To be honest, after a couple of months I wished I'd gone with metal on top because when the ligatures (o-rings) stained (which happened constantly), the ceramic braces looked di...

You need to have 12 or more meaningful posts so that your status changes to green. We do it this way because creeps had been registering and immediately bothering members with PM's. "Meaningful" means not throw-away posts just to get your post count up. If you do that, those posts will be ...

Re: Pursuing Revision - Advice and Psychological Support

First of all, I'm sorry that your surgery didn't turn out well. I've never had jaw surgery, but reading your story, my first thought is this: do you really want to trust that original surgeon with a revision? If I were you, I'd get many surgical consultations and seek out the absolute best oral surg...

Re: How often do you clean your hawley retainers?

You should be cleaning and disinfecting your retainers every single day.

Re: Retainers

The clear plastic (Essix) retainers can't really be adjusted like an acrylic and metal (Hawley) retainer. I suggest that you speak to your orthodontist or dentist about this problem. Perhaps your retainers can be re-made to be less tight.
