Re: Regenerative medicine and jaw surgery
Periskir, you've got to know that the swelling that follows jaw surgery is normal. Using stem cells won't help decrease the swelling at all. There was trauma done to your body and the body's natural reaction is to "cushion" the area by placing more spam spam in the area, causing swelling. ...

Re: I want a piece of information about orthognathic surgery
Sorry, but the preview that I read on that article doesn't even let you know if the article is about endoscopy during jaw surgery (bsso, specifically), or about how an endoscopy would help during a bsso, as you're assuming. An endoscopy is when they put a tube with a camera attached at the end of it...

Re: Reverse curve wire! OH My!
I got this wire put in with "steps" in it (literally what it sounds like...some teeth were to be pulled higher than others) prior to my surgery. I couldn't eat for about a week and a half! On the other hand, my teeth moved pretty quickly and I was cleared for surgery a bit earlier than sch...

Re: Almost 1 week post op BSSO only :)
Hi Periskir! I was fully under for my surgery, so I got general anesthesia. I didn't have much nausea afterwards, though I know it's a concern for a lot of people. I did throw up twice while banded shut at the hospital, but it's all liquid since you can't eat prior to surgery so it's not much of an ...

Teehee! I'm a 115lb angry little Asian girl lol... Nowhere spectacular. We went for hour long walks at the park, through downtown, and down by the waterfront, etc. It was really nice to get out...the week I had surgery was amazingly sunny...kind of unheard of for April in Seattle...! My last weekend...

Re: 3mm underbite - Braces/surgery Questions
From what I understand, wearing a retainer is a life-long thing. It might not be nightly for the remainder of your life, but it is forever even if it's just one night a week. All I know is, when I didn't wear my retainer after my first set of braces, my teeth shifted quite a bit. I intend for this n...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies
Also, Kayla, you should check with your insurance to make sure that your surgery is still approved. For my surgery, I was approved in March 2014 for the surgery, but that approval expired at the end if 2014. Since I switched surgeons, my new surgeon had to send in new paperwork/moldings, etc to get ...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies
No worries, Kayla...You give your insurance information to the hospital check in people and they run it. No cash exchanges hands the day of surgery :) I had to pay for my surgeon's fee when I did my molds, but I'm pretty sure that's standard. What my surgeon's office does is they look at your insura...

Re: Feeling sad after braces
I just loved smiling with them and ok I used them a lot to my advantage. Being 20, with them I easily looked 15 (prob still do even without them) so I made the most of child price tickets at the movies xD Best use of braces. Ever. !!!! I've got to try this...I'm 29 and was told the other day that I...

Re: Newbie question - why is it hard to eat?
I've had braces for about 14 months now (1 month post surgery, even!) and I basically eat whatever I want. Even with the surgery, I was never limited to a liquid diet (soft chew, but no liquid diet). Think about it this way. Your teeth are shifting, so there a bit of throbbing. Nothing too bad, but ...

Re: Just curious about everyone's treatment cost
Hi 6bug! I used to live in Honolulu and was quoted about $8k for invisalign (which I was told still wouldn't fully correct everything...I'd need full on metal braces for that for about $6.5k) and I want to say it was at Ala Moana Dental. They were my regular dentist and are amazingly awesome and did...

Re: 9mm overjet, 90% impinging overbite
It all depends on your surgeon. The first surgeon I consulted with told me they'd wait until the surgery to determine if they had to take out my wisdom teeth because the roots might be in the way of the screws. It just depended on how well my roots could be straightened out with the braces (my wisdo...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies
I didn't even get to see a rendering of what I'd look like after surgery... But I look fine, I think. My jawline did change quite a bit (more square-ish now, but nothing too dramatic). To answer earlier questions... I was told that I didn't need a catheter because my surgery wasn't supposed to be lo...

Re: Starting my journey
I'm glad the Miralax is working for you! :) My other suggestion would've been magnesium citrate, but it's super strong stuff and you'd have been stuck at home running back and forth to the bathroom........but it is effective... So today is Wednesday...are you soft diet approved yet?! :D My doctor to...
