Re: Braces at 35!

VioletJay, how's it going for you so far? I don't have any pain with the Damon brackets - just some sensitivity if I push on certain teeth... Scully, I'm with ya - I'd like to lose about 10lbs, so I figure these bit blocks will be a big help. lol I've already lost 5 lbs since Friday on the Ortho-Ap...

Re: How long did you have to wear elastics?

I'm only 5 months in, and my ortho has given me elastics... I'm supposed to be in braces for 2 years.

is that weird? :?

Rubber bands, bite block, the works.

Re: OK--This was not the plan!

Ah you are soo lucky! I am craving a block of dark chocolate right now, but the pain makes it impossible to bite down on the chocolate :/ So looks like I'll have to just wait. You got elastics?? How do they feel? I am getting them in 6 monthes, NOT looking forward to them. Oh and I must ask you thi...

Re: Braced at 24...Oh the floss we thread...

I'm 23 and I had a very deep bite and TMJ before braces. I also had a tooth grinding problem, which was made worse by the fact that my top teeth hit my bottom teeth in the front. When I piece of my tooth fell out while I was talking on the phone, I decided then and there I had to get the braces I re...

Re: those small gaps that keep appearing!

I was getting gaps around my top front teeth, and my ortho clipped some stops to the wire and wired my top front teeth together to close it all up a month ago. It's taking forever, but it is closing up. Gaps happen as your palette and bite expands. I think of it as a visual representation of how muc...

Re: Anterior open bite has ruined my social life....

Nobody's face is symmetrical without surgical intervention. If you look closely at mine, my nose actually makes a swoop down and then off to one side... Everyone's facial features go off-center a little bit. Just look at Stephen Fry's face! He looks like he's made out of clay and somebody face-palme...

I'm 23, and have clear damons top and bottom, too! I've had mine a bit longer, but I just got the bottoms put on last Friday. Bite blocks are the worst... I've been eating nothing but soft things and smoothies.

I didn't have to get spacers because I have no bands on my molars... I guess I must have lucked out! :D

Re: 3 weeks to go and a new gap, gah!!

moving and gapping are all part and parcel to the whole braces thing. You will have that sort of movement even as you near your debracing date. I'm sure your ortho has noticed and will get things moving in the right direction. And remember...debracing dates are not set in stone. My ortho refuses to ...

Re: urgently need advice re possible damage to teeth / Jaw

my concern is that I'm not sure I have the budget for additional treatment. If the filing of the teeth has led to this problem and it should not have been done, I'm wondering whether it's possible to force the orthodontist to pay for the problems to be fixed? She is denying she has filed the teeth,...

Re: urgently need advice re possible damage to teeth / Jaw

I'm so angry. I think that the only solution might be crowns...unless the teeth either side of the front two uppers are filed too, so the uppers are longer than these. My teeth now look like the 'before photos' in an advertisment and my teeth as they were prior to treatment, the 'afters'. I was sho...

Re: Does having Braces make you feel cool?

I feel cool in that I am proud I can afford braces all by myself... and uncool in the sense that I get carded all the time (for R-rated movies), people think my boyfriend is a cradle-robber, and I have an epic lisp because of my new bite block...

Re: urgently need advice re possible damage to teeth / Jaw

Wow! What a horror story! I don't know where to begin. Your ortho seems like an impulsive person, filing and doing all that stuff to your teeth before your treatment was even finished, and it sounds like treatment was not finished at all if you can't properly chew your food. Then there is the outrig...

yeah, those are awesome. My ortho gives me a pack or two whenever I go in.
