Re: June/July Surgery Buddies
It has cheese curds on it??!! Ughhhh suddenly I'm nauseous... :| Hahaha I appreciate you looking up places to go that have it. Actually, the first place they mention, Dinosaur BBQ is just a few miles from me. Maybe next time if I'm feeling REALLY adventurous... When I sleep flat my cheeks feel real...

Re: Deciding against orthognathic surgery
My orthodontist is actually all the way down in Federal Way. She's been consistently rated as one of the best in the area and she's been nothing but nice to me whenever I see her. And when I have questions I feel like she doesn't just give me a cursory answer that's simple and mainly designed to mak...

Re: Deciding against orthognathic surgery
I'm just going to assume you saw Dr Bloomquist, because your description kind of sounds like him. His online reviews all say that his bedside manner is rather lacking. He's in the same office as my surgeon (Dr Feldman, much nicer personality) so I saw him when I developed an infection while my surge...

If your state allows you to renew your license online, they'll reuse your old photo Just FYI

Re: Adults With metal braces - are you happy with your choice?
I was given the option for ceramic at $750 extra per arch. Also, I drink a good amount of coffee and don't really care what other people think of me (this is something I'm doing to better MYSELF, after all), so it was metal braces for me! Also, if it's true that they work faster, then at least I'll ...

Re: Deciding against orthognathic surgery
I'm in Seattle, where are you? :) I opted for the surgery. Like you, I had no self esteem issues, or anything of that sort. I actually asked my dentist about how I could stop grinding my teeth, and he actually suggested braces and I seem to have tried all the other usual routes. When I went for my c...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies
So someone who had upper and lower jaw surgery told me that when she started craving a burger, she did got a quarter pounder from McDonald's, took off 1 bun, plopped the rest of it into her blender, and thinned it out with beef broth. She said she knows it sounds absolutely disgusting, but it filled...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies
Sewing shut the eyes is something I think horror story writers think up...not surgeons... That would give me nightmares if it had happened to me... I usually don't advise drinking alcohol until after the antibiotics are done. In terms of Metronidazole, though, I usually say wait an extra day or two ...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies
Doubt you guys are drinking alcohol, but absolutely no alcohol with metronidazole (you'll land in the ER with uncontrollable puking if so). I had an infection on one side of my jaw around 1.5 weeks, so I wasn't entirely normal looking until about the middle of the third week...so maybe 18 days? I al...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies
Oh, and Snap... Around week 3, I managed to snap a suture line in my cheek. It was meant to dissolve into my cheek tissue but was kind of close to the surface and when I was stretching my mouth opening as wide as I could, it snapped. ...I couldn't feel anything other than less tightness in my cheek,...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies
Arnica is usually used for bruising, but it's not FDA approved for anything as it's a "homeopathic remedy." The amoxicillin liquid generally tastes better than the pills because it's usually given to children, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't have some weird after taste. Also, the fla...

Re: June/July Surgery Buddies
Gruntled, I'm sorry to hear you're super queasy! You can always ask for more antinausea meds - they put it through your IV so it doesn't go through your stomach and make you feel even worse. I threw up twice after surgery due to having blood in my stomach and I will say that I felt almost IMMEDIATEL...

Re: Full power chains & eating
I had full power chains (7 to 7) on each arch for the better part of a year. The first week after every adjustment was a pain in the behind because I couldn't be able to eat anything other than soup for the entire week. I got in the habit early of rinsing my mouth after every couple of bites of food...

Re: how much is enough starting money for a private practice orthodontist?
I was given multiple options for payment. I could pay in cash/check form and have 5% off the total cost, or put it all in a credit card and have 2% off the total cost, or put down 20% and pay monthly over the course of a year (possibly 2...I forget exactly). The 20% obviously depends on the cost of ...
