I'm an odd case in this but I have a bonded composite retainer (upper) behind two teeth and other than that no retainers at all. I had a severe open bite which was corrected with upper and lower jaw surgery nd two years of braces. My ortho bears the philosophy that if the jaws are in perfect (or nea...

I had upper/lower and genio to correct an open bite. With the open bite by lips did not close easily prior to surgery and i had a "dimply" chin. Post-surgery my lips close comfortably and naturally and no more dimply chin. I remember the first time I went to the bathroom in the hosiptal an...

I was on the fence until a couple weeks before surgery. My surgeon got insurance approval for both upper and lower. We knew the upper, with widening of the palate at the same time, was a given (I had an open bite). It was until my last appointment with the surgeon that he thought the best route woul...

I am post braces and had really good luck with Crest White Strips Professional. I have also been using the new Crest Weekly Clean paste twice a week and that has maintained a nice level of whiteness. I was going to do the professional whitening route if not happy with the "cheaper route". ...

My surgeon also sumbitted for upper and lower even though initially we thought it would be only upper. Glad he did because I ended up with both upper and lower. In a suprise moment, my insurance even covered genio which wasn't pre-approved. So insurance is always weird, keep trying if you are denied...

As far as my bite goes, it feels very natural and comfortable now. I have a very comfortable at rest position with my lips closed and I am no longer a mouth breather (these are key improvements with open bite correction). For me that part is very natural. The pressure in the teeth thing is hard to d...

I am 2 years and 3 months post-op from double jaw surgery and genioplasty to correct an open bite. I love, love, love the results and don't regret for a minute going through it. However, do I feel "natural"....hmmm, I'd have to say not totally. I have residual numbness in a small portion o...

Here's the weblink. If you decide to see Dr. Simpson, PM me and I'll give you my real name. I'd love for him to know I referred someone to him. He helped give me a great smile and I thought that wasn't possible with my mouth :D

I'm sorry to hear that you have some issues remaining after the surgery. I hope you can get to the results you desire. If you are anywhere near Rock Hill, I really recommend the doctor I used. Good Luck.

I spent two nights in the hospital after upper/lower/genio. Mine was taken off by the surgeon when he visited before I was discharged. It did leave quite a sticky mess but they got it off.

I'm not sure what park of SC you are in but I live on the NE side of Columbia. I had a really great experience with Dr. Simpson at the Center for Oral and Maxiofacial Surgery in Rock Hill. Great surgeon/person and the overall experience produced results I am very, very happy with. I had upper and lo...

I had never had any hospital stay, surgery or general anesthesia until I had my jaw surgery. I have to admit I got quite edgy after the surgery date was actually scheduled which was about a month and a half before the date. I think what really helped me was all the lead-up appointments with the surg...

Dealing with insurance really stinks doesn't it. Sorry about your troubles. My upper, lower and genio was covered as medical necessity. My insurance company used measurements. I had an open bite greater than 5mm which was their standard for viewing open bite correction as medical necissity. I wasn't...
