Re: hardware removal
I’m not sure I understand your first question, but regarding your second question, I’m not aware of any technology to fix nerve damage, but I think over time you’re supposed to get more used to it. I’ve heard of massages helping with stiffness, but your mileage may vary.

Re: hardware removal
Hi there, I had half of my hardware removed quite a while after my surgery. The recovery is much easier than the orthognathic procedure. I didn’t get nearly as swollen. That said, I don’t know whether it will help with your stiffness. I suspect not, as that seems more like a nerve damage thing. May ...

The bonded retainers seem like a good option. My wife and I both have one on the bottom and they’re great! Good luck, Nozzel!

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies
When I got my braces off, my bite was more or less ideal and my jaw opened evenly. I had a bit of an open bite on my left side but it was manageable. Now, my jaw opens unevenly and it's my right side bite that's open, and my left side is only partially closed. It's hard to chew on my right side. My...

Re: Insurance woes
You’d have to get it pre-approved by Medicaid, right? I have no idea what their rules are but I had good luck with BCBS!
Either way, good luck!

Re: Jaw surgery worst nightmare come true
I’m not sure what you mean by “too old”. You might heal up a bit slower than others but I don’t know that that should be a show-stopper for you. Similarly, nobody can tell you whether or not it’s worth it for you. It’s a personal decision based on the symptoms, risks, etc. That said, your symptoms s...

Re: June/July 2015 Surgery Buddies
Hey guys, I'm back. The dentist asked if I'd be willing to do braces again and I said I would be if I knew FOR SURE it was going to actually fix the problem. I already had braces for 2.5 years and I ultimately relapsed. I don't want to go through it again. Honestly, I can't fathom a fix that doesn'...

Re: Hate jaw surgery results!!!
If you don’t see the top of your teeth when smiling your biggest, then you were probably over-impacted. Likely not by much, but as they say, “millimeters are the miles of the face”. The “ideal” is 1-2mm gum show when smiling your biggest. That said, it still looks normal to others if you don’t show ...

Re: Lip incompetence and mouth breathing solution?
I would suggest that you see a qualified maxillofacial surgeon as nobody on this forum (to my knowledge) is qualified to recommend a surgical plan, unless perhaps they happened to be in the exact same situation as you. That said, I had lip incompetence before my orthographic surgery and the surgery ...

Re: Has anyone gotten Medicaid (US) to cover their surgery?
I’ve never heard of anyone getting approval for coverage under Medicaid, but that’s not to say it’s necessarily disallowed. Consider calling them and asking, or visit an in-network oral-maxillofacial surgeon and have then submit it to your insurance. Do you know what criteria you think you might qua...

I’m not familiar with the balcony genioplasty. Have you looked up studies that show how they compare?
