Re: OVERBITE - pic included - inman aligners? invisalign?

I don't know if this is something that would be available to you, but wanted to share my story. I started out with a metal appliance called a "Carriere distalizer" (I think they changed the name recently to "Carriere Motion") to correct my overbite. It was a tiny bit less obvious...

Re: Who knew these tiny blue spacers could hurt so much....

The first few days are definitely the worst. I ended up having mine in for three weeks the first time around which was not fun... though it was really only the first 5-6 days that hurt. After that they went to moderately annoying, but not painful. I did randomly end up having to have a few more plac...

Re: Does your ortho office have assigned assistants?

I generally see a different assistant every time I go. Occasionally I've gotten one a couple times in a row, but I think it's purely been coincidental. Some I like more than others, but all seem friendly and relatively knowledgeable. My recent visits have mostly just been check-ins anyway for me to ...

Re: Invisalign on top, brackets on bottom--is this possible?

While I have heard of people only getting Invisalign on one arch (rarely), I've not heard of people using different methods in different arches simultaneously. Doesn't mean it's not done, I just don't know of anyone doing it. I think you could run into issues because traditional braces and Invisalig...

Re: Class ll Malocclusion After Invisalign... Now What?

Ugh, I feel for you. I first consulted with a general dentist in my regular practice who offers Invisalign. She told me my case was very straightforward one and I would only need about 8-10 months in Invisalign to correct my moderate crowding. I was all excited and ready to sign up, but luckily that...

Re: Incisors proclined versus more vertical - preferences?

I'm in the States and broad smiles were brought up at both of my consults and they both made it sound like, "Everyone wants a nice, broad smile," to which I though, hm, okay, if you say so! I don't like the look of a VERY narrow arch, but beyond that, I don't feel the need for people to se...

Re: Confess your orthodontic sins.

Another Invisalign wearer confessing to NOT wearing my trays the required 20-22 hours. I'm usually good for the first couple days after I switch, but the closer I get to the next switch the more I figure, "Eh, they don't hurt anymore so the teeth are where they need to be already, no need to ru...

Re: Rescheduling appointments (mini-rant)

I can certainly feel your pain! I've run into this a few times and it's always frustrating. I have Invisalign and I never understand why the ortho assistants can't do the scheduling when they're giving me my next sets of trays. I mean, if you're going to give me 5 trays to get me through the next 10...

Re: Slow Progression

I agree with the picture comment. Like you, I was a few months into treatment and was feeling like nothing was happening. What's worse is that I have Invisalign, so I can visually compare trays and I still wasn't seeing the difference. I was getting really frustrated. I happened to take a picture fo...

Re: Mature Newbie - No problems, no pain

That's great! Congratulations on starting your journey! I haven't had too much in the way of pain, either, and I'm currently on my 13th set. There have been a few sets that were a bit uncomfortable, but even that pain was mostly only when I went to take them out. The rest of the time my teeth felt f...

Re: Brass monkey :) Brass spacers :(

Yikes! I initially had a couple metal spacers on one side because the space was too tight for the regular, doughnut-shaped ones. Thankfully they only made me wear them for two days, at which point enough space had been created that they could replace them with the blue ones. I was relieved because t...

Re: Align Technology Release Invisalign G5

Very exciting! I've got some of the issues that the G5 is meant to address. I'm already in Invisalign, so I guess this won't help me much, but good to know that if I need refinements (I'm already assuming I will!) this will be the new technology my ortho can use!

Re: What was the last straw for you?

I don't know that there was any particular epiphany. I've wanted to straighten my teeth since I was a pre-teen, but was always told it was cosmetic. As an adult it took me a few years to feel comfortable with the idea of altering my appearance. As much as I wanted to change my teeth I got a lot of, ...

Re: Invisalign attachments? Overall experience?

The remaining attachments I'm scheduled to get will be on my front teeth. I'd be disappointed, except that I know what they're designed to do and I'm really excited for the changes that are going to come with them, so it will make it worth it for me. I'm very happy with my decision to go with Invisa...

Re: Invisalign attachments? Overall experience?

I did not know how many attachments I'd end up with beforehand, but I'm not sure whether the ortho can give you an exact number before they've sent off the scans/impressions to Invisalign and finalized the treatment plan. At that point you're pretty much already committed. I know from experience tha...
