Re: Whitening your teeth BEFORE braces?

I did that. I didn't think it made much difference. After about 20 months into treatment, my teeth does look kinda yellow, and it's making me worried about finding white squares upon debracing.

Re: Second time around, just 8 months after first...

When you said you don't want a "flat" smile, are you saying you want to end with some kind of an overbite? Actually, if you are happy with your teeth in their crooked positions and vertical proportions, and also don't want your molars moved, is it not possible to make more space of the ext...

Re: Second time around, just 8 months after first...

Have you tried drawing? Or taking photos and notating which teeth/how you want/do not want them to move? This was what I did with my ortho when he could not see what I was talking about. I ultimately took pictures of my actual teeth and compared it side by side with my moulds and added arrows, dots ...

Re: Next appointment is to make impressions...

Fingers crossed that things stabilises for you! I had my debrace schedule pushed back for a couple of months because I was not happy with how my molars are lining or rather not lining up. When my ortho made the necessary adjustments, other teeth that were straight become misaligned again within 24 h...

You can get bonding done, but it would be done with by your general dentist and not your ortho.

Re: Gap not closing, brace coming off in 1 month

Oh, that is quite a significant gap. It should be closed before the braces come off. Good to hear that your ortho is working to ensure all gaps are closed before debracing.

Re: Extraction gap closure time

Mine took almost a year to fully close. Closing of extraction spaces takes up the largest portion of the treatment time.

Re: Damon wearers... Talk to me about "square" wire.

I know this is old post but I came in looking for others who are finding the move the square wires really painful. I don't have any of the cuts and sores from the initial time but I can't bite down without pain. I think it's worse than the initial wires, I literally can't chew anything. My teeth we...

Is it possible to have an infected tooth even though my tooth doesn't have any trauma or decay?
Yes. A non-vital (dead) tooth can be infected. A dead tooth can be caused by trauma and also braces, but non-vital teeth due to braces is quite uncommon.

Re: Second time around, just 8 months after first...

My vote goes to getting the full 30 - 36 months treatment. As you have already experienced first hand, an unbalanced bite causes tmj issues over time. So I'd put focus on truly fixing the bite in the best functional way possible to alleviate some of that. A 8 months partial treatment of just the top...

Re: Permanent retainer a necessity?

The ortho recommends the different types of retainers based on your individual case. So perhaps he doesn't think you need a permanent one on top of the clear ones. There are pros n cons for a permanent retainers. If your teeth are very prone to relapse/moving, maybe it'll be a good idea to get a per...

Re: Power chains not closing gap.

For me, elastics did help with gap closure. The elastics puts pressure on the entire arch and adjusts both arches to help them fit together properly. I would say to wear your elastics diligently as per your ortho's instructions. Especially if you have stubborn gaps. Part time or irregular wear is ac...

Re: Premolar extraction and tongue habits

Do you have a scalloped tongue, or sleep apnea? I would think twice about getting a tongue reduction surgery. It is way more invasive than moving teeth and depending on what you are hoping to achieve, it may be abit of an overkill. Some side effects of this surgery (depending which part of the tongu...

Re: Forsus - can I sleep on my side? Super important!

If your ortho says it's not a problem, then I guess it should be fine. I personally didn't have a forsus, so I can't relate my experience, but if they do cut your cheek up, try going to bed with wax nightly. I personally went to bed with wax every night during the beginning few months of my treatmen...
