Re: Concerns about getting braces. Opinions?

With regards to your anxiety over dental procedures, I would bring that up to the orthodontist when you go for a consultation. I'd imagine very few offer sedation, but some may allow for you to take an anxiolytic (Valium, etc) prior to the long appointments. Depending on the degree of your malocclus...

Re: Rockin' the Braces Again at 32

3 weeks until braces! I feel like a little kid counting down the days until Christmas. This post isn't so much of an update as it is just me wanting to talk braces (I feel like I'm already driving the wife nuts with talking about them so much lol) The biggest news is that I had to push back my brace...

Re: Open Bite - My Journey with Braces

I like the blue ligatures. Not a whole lot of movement yet, but closing an open bite takes time. Your teeth are relatively straight already, so they look great from the higher angle that doesn't show the gap. Looking forward to your progress!

How much am I going to hate these tongue cleats?

I get braces in just a few short weeks! I'm also getting a TPA and lingual cleats placed the same day. There are several posts on this site about the TPA that I more or less know what to expect. But I couldn't find nearly as much information about the cleats, so I figured I'd reach out to see if any...

Re: open bite

I know this is old but--my ortho never even mentioned closing the open bite with elastics. Is that a fairly normal thing to do? I guess Im wondering why this hasn't been mentioned or attempted with me. Anyone else want to share their open bite experiences? During my first round of braces about a do...

Re: Getting braces again

Hi blackwidow, Good luck as you start your treatment. Do you have a date picked out for getting your braces on? I don't have an overjet, but do have an open bite secondary to tongue thrust. My treatment starts in 4 weeks, and I'll have some metal "cleats" bonded to the back of my upper and...

Re: Joining the Club

Looking forward to your progress. My orthodontist did state that Invisalign is an option for me, but I opted for the traditional braces as I was concerned about achieving the degree of compliance necessary to have satisfying results with Invisalign.

Re: Rockin' the Braces Again at 32

Haven't posted an update in a little while, because I didn't have much news to share. I had my oral surgeon consult 2 weeks ago. He recommended not single, but double jaw surgery followed by 6 weeks of splinting. I wasn't exactly surprised, as surgeons are typically going to push a surgical option o...

Re: Ongoing Braces Journal w/ Pics - Crossbite, Openbite, Crowding, Misalignment

When do you get your braces on? Don't know yet. I saw 3 orthos for consultation. One wanted me to set a tentative brace date before leaving the office, which I did for July 19. Another had me go see an oral surgeon (done yesterday) prior to putting together a treatment plan. I see him again on June...

Re: Ongoing Braces Journal w/ Pics - Crossbite, Openbite, Crowding, Misalignment

Welcome, your braces look great! Your journey is starting a couple of months before mine, but I have a similar open bite and cross bite. Looking forward to seeing your progress as I'll probably be follow a similar treatment plan. Let me know how annoying those tongue spurs are, as these were mention...

Re: Possible orthognathic surgery for anterior open bite

Just a quick update, had my oral surgery consultation this afternoon. Double jaw surgery was recommended. I asked him specifically about TADs, and he was pretty discouraging on the matter. I trust his clinical skill and the stability of my bite after surgery, but I wonder to what degree (if any) he ...

Re: Rockin' the Braces Again at 32

Had my third ortho consultation today. He is a bit farther from my house than the other two, but on the plus side, he's the only one of the three open on Fridays, which works well with my schedule. Super-personable doctor, and nice facility. He actually called me yesterday evening to welcome me to t...

Re: Anterior open bite, retreating 20 yrs later, intro and ?

Jfriend, Just wanted thank you immensely for this thread. Although I've been lurking on Archwired for the last couple months in anticipation of getting braces, my orthodontic consultation yesterday confirmed that I have many of the same issues that you have faced (open bite, over jet, tongue thrust)...

Re: Fixing my teeth & bite at 27

Good luck with your treatment! Looking forward to your progress. Your top teeth are already pretty straight. Can't wait to get mine on. I work with kids too, so I expect/hope that showing up at work in braces shouldn't be too much of an adjustment.
