Re: Cold Symptoms after Every Ortho Appt!

I know this may be a long shot but could it have to do with inflammation? My ortho told me the braces cause inflammation in the teeth/bones and that actually helps (or maybe causes) the movement. That's why ibuprofen can slow ortho treatment (it's anti-inflammatory medication). Maybe the inflammati...

Re: Cold Symptoms after Every Ortho Appt!

I'm with you Emily on the silicone rubber bands. That's what they have me doing right now and the issue is that the top braces are ceramic and the little buttons that hold the elastics are tiny. I sometimes have to go through a couple of elastics to find the right one that does not pop off. I have ...

Re: Cold Symptoms after Every Ortho Appt!

Interesting comments & questions, thanks folks! I have never been tested for a Latex allergy, but I have been wearing latex elastics for months so don't think that is it. I am pretty sure the techs wear nitrile gloves (they are blue), because of so many folks having latex allergies. They offer e...

Thanks for sharing your story. It sounds like you have found a good and thorough orthodontist. I would have loved to get any email from my ortho...he is old school. Best of luck to you in your treatment!

Cold Symptoms after Every Ortho Appt!

This is the strangest thing, and I just wonder if anyone else has ever experienced it or if I am the only one. Every time I have an orthodontic adjustment, the night of and the day after, I feel like crap. Scratchy throat, cough, malaise, etc. Kinda like the first day of a cold. A couple of times, i...

Re: Braces after Jaw Fracture at Age 56!

Alrighty then! Just had an adjustment today... * Ortho didn't glue back the bracket on my crowned molar that keeps coming off. I think he decided (and I concur) that my bite is as good as it's gonna get on that side. That was never my problem side. He discontinued the Class 2 elastic (which I'd only...

Re: Oh the pain - rectangle wires, elastics, and bite build ups.

I second what assertives said about jaw exercises. I have been wearing elastics (class 2 and/or triangles) for the past 9 months (minus six weeks in the middle, when he gave me a break), and when I have my elastics out to eat and brush, I just try opening my jaw as wide as possible several times, bu...

Re: Same bracket just popped off for FOURTH time!

One thing that my former ortho seemed to do right (as opposed to ALL the wrong things she did to me...) is that she would never re-use a bracket. She said they were way more likely to come loose because the cement would not adhere so well on old cement. I only ever loosened 2 brackets in almost 2 y...

Re: New Member bound for Braces at 66

This. ^ I got braces at 56, am 57 now. Elastics for most of the time. You do get used to them. But I am ready to get them off! One thing I've noticed is that my teeth don't seem to move as faster as younger folks's (20s and 30s), from photos I've seen. I think they have been in one place for sooooo ...

Re: Protein shake

Anyone limiting sugar should also consider using xylitol as a sweetener. I found a nice bag of granulated xylitol in a health food store, looks just like sugar and has no aftertaste. Xylitol is actually good for dental health (google it)! Just keep it away from your dog(s) if you have any; it is ver...

Re: Invisalign Newbie

I got my first set of Invisaligns on Friday. I go back for attachments on Sept. 11. So far, I am not thrilled. Had a fierce headache on day 2. Then, yesterday I developed a bad sore throat. I really hope all this settles down. Perhaps you just have a virus? Hope you'll feel better soon, regardless!

Re: Protein shake

Thank you so much Emily ! I would try those flavors. Especially adding spinach. May I know brand do you use for protein powder too ? Unfortunately, I can't remember. This was over a year ago when I had my jaw wired shut. We picked up a big container of protein powder at the drug store when we fille...

Re: Protein shake

One more idea, since it sounds like you are short on time. You can buy pre-made protein drinks in the produce section of your grocery store. I found these to be delicious. Pricier than making them yourself in the blender, but great for those short on time: https://www.bolthouse.com/products/beverage...
