Also had gaps forming a few months into treatment. My gaps have finally closed completely with this last adjustment. Next adjustment is less than a week away: hoping Ortho will do updated impressions, which will mean my surgery is close...

My favorite is the sugar lip products available from Sephora: while pricey, they last a long time because I don't have to constantly reapply it: lasts for hours.

It's been 8 months and the gaps just aren't getting smaller despite powerchain AND elastics (rabbits). I need them smaller for the surgery. I'm wondering if it's because I have really dense bone (so the consultant said) and one extraction was traumatic and got dry socket and the other was surgical....

I think braces do broaden the smile.

Your ortho is correct: the purpose of power chains is to close gaps. Ask him to possibly put double power chains on. That is what my ortho did and that stubborn gap in my lower two front teeth finally closed! Congrats on almost being done! I still have a surgery and another year or so in braces...

Try sugar free gum. I chew it all the time and have had no issues whatsoever and my ortho said the sticky, non-sugar-free gum is what you have to avoid.

The time from final molds (and you don't necessarily need other molds) to surgery is not inherently long. My final molds were done at my final pre-op visit for surgery the following week. I imagine molds in the morning could theoretically lead to surgery the next afternoon if things were scheduled ...
