I see the thing to which you refer and suspect it is the shorter of two arch-wires; likely there to exert extra force on those teeth.

My turn: One of the lower right molars became sensitive to cold today. I hope this isn't an indication that the tooth is going south and a root canal will become necessary. Fingers crossed. A new wire was placed on the bottom last Wednesday, so hopefully that's the reason.

Hi, Gia. Brackets can be relocated and arch wire reintroduced to do the work of intruding teeth.

Good golly, given the cost associated with and discomfort of having braces, I would go for an ounce of prevention versus a pound of cure. Perhaps consult your ortho about it before things go south?
