I had my surgery just over a year ago at age 48 and am so very happy I finally did it. I think that possibly it takes a bit longer for the nerves to come back if we are older...but...numbness usually lasts for months no matter what the age of the person is. It definitely shouldn't be a deterrent and...

Hi BB, I'm so glad that things are going well for you! It sounds like everything you're experiencing is normal. I sleep on my side and had experienced the same thing if I slept w/too much pressure on my jaws. Tingles are going to come and go for awhile. Even after a year, sometimes I'll get an inten...

So I was braced at 46 and had surgery at 48. Now I'm 49 and just got my lower braces off last week. Am I happy I did it...you betcha...

No, it's not crazy. It's the fact that he has an excellent reputation. Americans like myself who had been denied health insurance still need to have their surgery done and truly can't afford $30K+++ to have it done over here. While there are other alternatives in other countries for medical tourism,...

Hope everything goes well at your appt today. Honestly, it could be anything at this point and infection is definitely a concern. However, I had similar problems at between 4-8 weeks post-op. A few other people here have had those problems as well. It usually turns out to be related to the tmj joint...

You might try to contact another member here vtmike1283. He went down there a couple of months ago and posted about it. And...there are 2 members of this site who are down there right now so maybe they will write about their experiences soon. I understand the importance of having as much input from ...

Bless you...I know how you're feeling now. First off, no matter now prepared we think we are, there are always surprises so I don't think that one is ever fully prepared for something like this. You're at day 3 right now so your pain is at it's peak. Heck, at day 3 for me, I had a hard time just sit...

Also, you may want to call the airline now to request a special soft/liquid meal for your trip home. I had a very early flight home and got a smoothie right next to the gate but there was an additional security check at the gate and I was not allowed to bring the smoothie on the plane. I could not e...

Wishing you all the best! I know it's easy for me to say now but don't worry. You will be in very good hands down there. I believe there is another person from this site who is having their surgery next week w/Dr Reiche too. That will be cool to have a surgery buddy there with you! Good luck and rem...

Always be honest and tell your surgeon/anesthesiologist everything as it can be life saving. It's better to tell them sooner rather than later. It would probably come up in the pre-surgical bloodwork anyway.

Welcome!
I didn't have a cross bite but I did have some extensive orthognathic surgery last year when I was 48. I had both upper and lower jaw done, genio, turbinectomies and partial septoplasty. You're never too old. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.
Best wishes

Well, the lowers were taken off today. The good news-I'm able to move and exercise those muscles that I couldn't before because the metal was digging into my lips/cheeks. And, I really like to see my nekkid teeth after 3 yrs. The bad news-Now when I close my mouth I find I have slight mentalis strai...
