why do people usually get attractive after surgery Attractiveness is very subjective, but there have been scientific studies that try to quantify what makes a person "attractive." One leading area of study is that "attractiveness" is directly related to "averageness" -...

Personally I would get the baby canine extracted and then get braces to pull down the un-erupted permanent tooth. This is the most natural solution and you retain all your own natural teeth. Getting a tooth implant is a pretty big deal - they literally drive a screw into your jaw bone and then attac...

If your wisdom teeth erupted normally (ie not impacted), you don't need general anesthesia at all. I had my wisdom teeth pulled with just local anesthesia and it took all of five minutes. The pain afterwards wasn't terrible - I was eating normal foods again after just two days.

Thanks, the wound was actually really small and it healed within a day or two. It was just more embarrassing than anything else. When it first happened I immediately called my ortho, but mumbling into the phone with a stuck tongue was kind of tricky. At first he was like "You're not coming in c...

YES get a cleaning right beforehand. I asked separately both my orthodontist & periodontist (required some gum grafts before bracing) whether I should get a cleaning right before and they both said "Of course" while giving me a funny look like I was an idiot for even thinking otherwise...

Good luck! I'm getting treatment for the exact same thing and was braced only about two months ago, so we will probably be getting surgery around the same time.

Everyone uses mirrors all the time so you are very comfortable with the way you look in the mirror. However, mirrors are a flipped image of you - your right side becomes your left and vice versa. Pictures on the other hand are the non-flipped version. So when you see a picture of yourself, features ...

Tongue thrusting & thumb sucking are not the only causes of open bites. Many on these boards, myself included, have open bites due to mismatches between upper and lower jaws. If your open bite is due to a skeletal discrepancy between your upper and lower jaws, you will not be able to correct it ...

Yeah it was stuck pretty bad - the hook actually went all the way through and out. I literally pierced my own tongue. I had tried pulling it off myself in front of a mirror, but I didn't have a good angle to see what I was doing and I didn't want to make a bigger wound than I already had. The doctor...

At the emergency room ...

I was running my tongue over my braces like I always do - when my tongue got stuck!!! As soon as I rushed to a mirror, I saw that my tongue was literally hooked on one of my bracket hooks! I feel like a caught fish!! Called my ortho but he didn't pick up so here I am at the ER. This has got to count...

Nineeyes, I noticed that you have a segmented upper arch wire in your "before" picture. Was your upper jaw surgery a 3-piece Lefort? I ask because my upper arch wire has the same config (cut between canines and pre-molars). I was only braced a little more than a month ago. Ever since I've ...

Ever since I've been braced I've been completely obsessed with looking at my teeth in the mirror. I've had my uppers on for 6 weeks and my lowers for 3 and to be honest, I can't tell a difference at all. I've taken periodic pictures and I've noticed changes in the positioning between teeth, but I st...

I have Delta Dental and my plan covers $2000 of adult orthodontia, paid out monthly over the entire treatment (2 years). I've been told by several orthodontists and dentists that this coverage is more generous than the average dental plan, but it is still less than 1/3 of my total braces costs.

They can widen your upper jaw through surgery using a multi-piece Lefort I. A normal Lefort I detaches and moves your upper jaw as one piece. A multi-piece Lefort I breaks that piece into 2 or more pieces, which can be repositioned by the surgeon for a wider upper jaw. Two- and three-piece Lefort Is...
