Re: Night guard for clenching?
I went through a period of bad night clenching early in my treatment and my ortho gave me a clear guard I could wear at night over the braces. Maybe ask if they have anything that would work?

Re: 6 months blues.
Everything seemed to feel annoying around that time frame. Spaces were all over the place, I had an edge to edge bite for a short time in the front and it annoyed me to no end. First hurdle was seeing my canines rotate properly. That was cool. Then just these past two adjustments or so I've gotten e...

Re: Cleaning retainers
By the time I get my braces off we will have a total of 7 retainers in this house among 4 wearers. I'm seriously considering an ultrasonic cleaner contraption. Right now all the kids soak theirs in an effervescent denture cleaner thing, but I think the ultrasonic will work better. We will all have H...

Re: Dying for some chips and salsa
Chips is one of the more difficult things for me to eat because they don't dissolve enough and all the little pieces get stuck under my wires. And if the piece is long enough it will get stuck but still stick out far enough to poke me as I bite down. I've hardly bitten into anything for a year and a...

Re: Braced at 42
So last Monday was not the day, ortho said since we had made changes the previous appointment he wanted to give me a couple more weeks with no changes just to let everything settle to make sure things will stay as we've adjusted when they do come off. So, barring anything out of the ordinary, my deb...

Re: Braced at 42
Monday might be the day! Everything is fitting well, nothing is knocking into another tooth and feeling weird, that has all been fixed with the subtle adjustments the parter at the ortho offic has done. I can honesty say if they take them off Monday I will be happy. They have booked extra appointmen...

Re: Question about wires
For a long time in the beginning is outdo have to go in about 3 or 4 days after an appointment to get pokey wires clipped at the back of my last bracket. It means the wire is going its job and getting your teeth where they belong. Now that I'm near the end I haven't had to do that for a while. So ye...

Re: Anyone else in Speed braces?
I ended up with an overnight elastic to correct my midline...from upper canine on the left to lower canine on the right. Quite the lisp with that one if I talked to anyone in the house after I put it in. Did the trick though.

Re: What's your favourite elastic colours?
I've done silver ligs the last three appointments but I've gotten funky with colored elastics. And since I'm wearing them in a class 3 triangle they are quite visible when I talk. I figure I'm about to the end of the journey so I can go a little wild.

Re: Braces for expanding
Could be elastics, could be springs installed on your wires to shove things apart. Elastics generally bring things together, but they can be pretty creative. You might want to work on the assertiveness to ask questions at your appointment, we can give general answers but details related to specific ...

Re: Anything you miss about braces?
To be honest I've never hated them. They've freaked me out now and then, like when I first had them put on and I realized I couldn't bite down anymore! That was a slight moment of panic. And when I have an adjustment and things start moving and my bite feels off I have to breathe and remind myself t...

Re: 6 months smiles braces and I'm not seeing progress? (6 weeks in)
Filing the sides of teeth is called IPR and it's a legitimate practice by even the most experiences orthodontists. Just thought I'd mention that in case newbies might think if their ortho did it that it was bad or lazy. It has its place.

Re: Molar band aggravation, please advise for relief
I would absolute call and go in to have it looked at. Orthodontists have an entire arsenal of tiny tools to do all sorts of things, they should have one that can smooth a rough spot.

Re: Anyone else in Speed braces?
I think standard is hooks on all 4 canine teeth as well as the 4 back brackets, whichever molars they happen to be on. If you've got a lot of crazy pulling and twisting to be done you may have a few more teeth with hooked brackets but usually it's just those.
