Re: ...And they're off!
Hey there; I'm getting close to the end point myself. Congratulations on crossing the finish line! So the ortho did not tell you to wear retainers during the day? I know my neighbor and my own past experience it was 24/7 first six months then transition to night wear only. Perhaps though I was misin...

Re: many consultations later, Suggestion needed
I vote for #1. Whomever you choose; I agree with mpkh and that it's not going to be a quick easy fix. It's also going to get messy before it gets pretty. It will be 3 years for me on March 11th. This is the date that ortho has tentatively scheduled de-bracing. I was so ready for him to say 4 weeks f...

Re: Flying after surgery
Interesting. My surgeon made me stay in the area for one week. Here are a few things to consider... After surgery one of the big challenges is breathing out of your nose. I would not want to get exposed to those contained germs after having this major surgery. Second consideration is your appearance...

Re: How long is it supposed to take to send a letter??
Sometimes you just need to make it happen. I would go to the ortho and hand carry the consult over to dentist. I would keep a copy of said consult too. In my case; my dentist was not the liaison between the two. I picked up my ortho teeth extraction request and handed it directly to the oral surgeon...

Re: How did you manage to work with a splint in for 5 weeks?
Hey There- I had the works; both lower and upper jaw surgery. I took two weeks of leave and then I was able to telework for one week. Keep in mind; you'll be pretty swollen following the surgery and even at the three week mark, I was still puffy in the face. Also; my job is a desk job but requires m...

Re: Mold made for my teeth but no feedback?
Hey Honey Bee, I would think the oral surgeon should be able to look at your teeth too and judge whether you're ready. Although it would be nice for you to have the direct communication regarding the process; I would also suggest having oral surgeon call orthodontist directly to ensure there is no m...

Hi Blazing Blue- A suggestion before you undergo your Leforte 1. During the procedure, your anesthesiologist will intubate you through your nose as the surgeon is going to be working in your mouth. I would respectfully suggest having an ENT consult before undergoing surgery to ensure you do not have...

Re: Getting consultation about jaw surgery
Hi Numjeff, Jaw surgery is not an easy endeavor. It generally entails braces before and after surgery (I'm going on 3 years). The surgery itself is similar to trauma surgery with blood loss ,risk of infection, relapse, nerve damage, etc. You usually stay in the hospital at least one to two nights. F...

Re: Facial changes after 4 extractions: an anecdote
Hey there- I thought the same thing. I was getting MMA surgery and needed braces before and after. Ortho said remove a couple of bottom teeth to match the teeth removed as a teen for first set of braces. I went ahead and had the two teeth extracted, and had the jaw surgery. I was supposed to have br...

Re: Uneven swelling after jaw surgery
Hi There- my swelling took a full year to disappear completely. I did not start to really look normal until about 3 months post-op. Sometimes you may not realize the progress you're actually making or you may be on to something. The best way to evaluate is to take a selfie once a week (same pose, li...

Just to let you know; I have both electric and battery powered. The electric is by far superior to the battery one.

Re: Elastic weight
They use the lighter elastics for box config because otherwise it would tip your teeth in with too much force. The strong elastic for class II because it pulling your upper in a backward motion and lower jaw in forward motion.

Re: opening wide after surgery
Hey there- you'll eventually get there. It took me a full year to get to 24 sticks; the goal set by my oral surgeon. What I found incredibly challenging was the length of time keeping the sticks in. My oral surgeon wanted me to do it for 30 minutes; now that was hard.
