Re: Same treatment- $2000 difference WWYD?
Since it's so important that it's done right, if it were me I might consider the one hour drive, since ortho appointments usually aren't that close together. It is a bit inconvenient but two years goes by quite fast.

Re: Filing front teeth
This is a terrific question and I am having similar concerns. If he mentioned IPR that would be Interproximal Reduction. They refer to it by all sorts of euphemisms. I think the last one I heard before they did it was "polishing." I was worried about this but it was fast and painless for m...

Mine's changing daily if not hourly. I think I'm too old for this.

Re: Food, Glorious Food
Awesome, junglejulie... I'm not a huge yogurt fan so I tried Greek for the first time the other day. Good but spendy, so I read one can make this by putting regular yogurt--I just grabbed some Dannon vanilla--in a coffee filter in a colander--I'm using the coffee drip thing and let the whey drip out...

Re: Anyone else have a worse bite now during treatment?
Somewhat related question: I just noticed kind of a ridged area on my formerly smooth sides of my mouth. I assume these are callouses. I also noticed the braces were a bit more comfortable today. But will the callouses ever go away? #freakingoutabouteverything

That's quite the family business. I hope you get a second or third opinion especially about something as permanent as extractions.

Re: Cutting poking wire yourself
I was told to come in and have them do that. The only thing they said I should do myself was put wax on anything that was bothersome.

Re: Food, Glorious Food
Ouch! So glad I don't have spacers, as I am a lightweight about pain. But maybe they are coming down the pike, you never know with this orthodontic bunch what they will spring on you next. Kind of like a magician at the circus pulling endless instruments of dental torture out of a hat. "And for...

Re: Extracted molar
I'm one who won't go to the doctor because I can't even bear a blood test. I wonder what my face looked like when they broke the news about the TAD. A screw? In my jaw? Say it ain't so...

Re: Food, Glorious Food
Thanks, Tobilei! I've been joking that I'm going to lose so much weight that I'm going to slide out of my braces. This must be REALLY hard for growing teenagers who actually need to eat.

Re: Extracted molar
Indeed, she said the spacers hurt terribly. Her ortho has since retired. Her teeth turned out beautifully but bands might be a bit old school.
