Bite progression during treatment

Has anyone had their orthodontist set their bite at a "less desirable" bite during treatment? I am nine months in and started with a minor overbite, but quickly just from teeth shifting and wearing bite blocks this entire time, it developed into an edge to edge bite. She has mentioned a co...

Re: Chewing gum alternative

Hi! I have lingual and I chew sugarfree gum (trident) without any issues. Ortho said it is fine and that it can actually help my treatment in my case. Ask yours just in case they disagree.

Re: IMPACTED CANINES CLUB

I would ask your ortho but if they intended to leave the button exposed, then your gum shouldn't grow over. There are two ways to do the procedure and one involves covering up the button (or bracket) and then pulling up with the chain/elastic, and one leaves the button uncovered and places the elast...

Re: IMPACTED CANINES CLUB

26withbraces - when you had your procedure did they cut away the gums and leave the impacted tooth exposed (as in can you see it) or did they attach the button to your tooth and then stitch the gums back down over it? It sounds like the former, whereas I think the chain is most commonly used when th...

Re: IMPACTED CANINES CLUB

Looked at side by side X-rays today of where canine was when we started and where it is now. Slight movement upwards and over. I Don't have X-rays of just before the procedure, so it's unclear if the tooth moved into the space that the ortho opened up on its own since I got braces in September, or i...

Re: IMPACTED CANINES CLUB

I feel for you whimsical. I'm not as deep into the process (braces 9 months and extract/expose with wilkidontics (to help it move faster) was 2 months ago. However, I feel like I am also in the despair club because my chain isn't coming up. Like not at all. Haven't had to cut one link off and there ...

Re: Ever wonder if ortho/staff are not doing great?

Unfortunately, I'm four months further into treatment (8 total) and the concerns persist. Absolutely nothing has changed. Not only have I gotten no results, but every single time I come in for an appointment I have waited a minimum of 30 mins from my appointment time to even get in the chair (averag...

Re: IMPACTED CANINES CLUB

Lish- I have and use acceledent. I only had my canine exposed two weeks ago so too soon to say on how it will impact the canine itself, but I will say acceledent has not sped up my treatment and I am actually well behind on my original treatment time estimate of 24 months (ortho guessed 18 with acce...

Re: IMPACTED CANINES CLUB

What was everyone's downtime from the extract/expose procedure? I'm having mine done at the end of the month on a Friday morning and am having some friends in starting Friday night. I'm guessing I may have some pain and should avoid alcohol and some foods, but would I feel well enough to socialize?

Re: "What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been" - Robert Hunter, Grateful Dead

Came here to harass for a lingual question! When you had your linguals, did you have anything taken out temporarily (like get wire out at ortho, leave and go next door to the dentist, then come back after cleaning to get hooked up again) or did the hygienist maneuver around everything?? I have a cle...

Re: Unexplainable...

When did everyone have the molar build ups removed? I'm at a little over six months and mine are still on. They do bother me because they are the type that is just composite put on the front top of two of my molars (think pointier than the blue stuff I have seen here) Do you have to ask if you are a...

Re: People keep noticing!

Yep. The bottoms are visible for me when I talk, especially if the person I am talking to is taller than me or if I sit and they stand. Pretty sure everyone I talk to regularly knows about them. I still think they look nicer than metal or ceramic bottoms (or even Invisalign when there are lots of bu...

Re: Linguals vs Regular braces

I have found linguals to be extremely comfortable. If I wasn't so anxious for results I would have forgotten they were there by now. Occasionally I have had to use wax for sore spots, but not for the past 2 montHs or so. I had regular braces when I was a kid but don't remember enough of the experien...
