Re: Elastics - night time wear only
Question about elastics. I thought they were used to move your jaw but after doing some research on this site it seems like they move your entire top / bottom row of teeth certain ways? Or do they only move the teeth that the elastics are engaged on? I'll ask my ortho when I see him in June but I'm...

Re: The Beginning of Six Month Smiles at 26
Wow I had no idea 6 month braces existed. How the heck to do they cut down treatment time 6 to 12 mo or more? And why don't all braces do this? This seems like a huge breakthrough in the braces industry.

Re: Implant cost!?!?!?
2000 for an implant sure would be nice. My implant will be 4500. Braces are 8400, of course no insurance for either treatment. The dentist won't place the implant until my bite is fixed so braced are manditory. Implant is necessary. No way around it if I want my teeth healthy. Dental work is crazy e...

Re: does this happen often or no?
I'm bored too, haven't seen any movement and absolutely no soreness after my first wire change, which to me confirms, no movement. My excitement over the past 7 days has been my new waterpik! It's so fun! I am a hygiene nerd.

Today I learnt that you shouldn't try to bite into lollypops  2nd time I've knocked off a bracket, my ortho is going to love me in the morning. photo.jpg How did you break a bracket? I figure it will help to know how they can break to avoid it! Your teeth look AMAZING! OK I see it now, lolli...

Re: Good restaurants for braced peeps
Thankfully I love Mexican food and it is pretty much braces friendly. I have to eat tacos with a fork but that's ok. At home I find I mostly eat whole grain or wheat tortillas and guac with some hot green chilie. Almost every day. Wholly guacamole is yummy.

Re: Need help deciding on brackets & orthodontist
In the end, traditional brackets, whether metal or ceramic, Damon or not, essentially do the same thing. If you were comparing brackets to Invasalign there'd be more differnces to evaluate. But brackets to brackets...is really going to give you the same thing overall. Frankly I would go with the mo...

Re: Need help deciding on brackets & orthodontist
Love my Damon ceramic uppers and Damon metal lowers. No ties for Damons. I don't find the ceramics bulky. I've heard the Damon metal braces are smaller than traditional. Ceramics do not stain. Wire change typically every 6 weeks. They were my most expensive option but my ortho is highly recommended ...

Re: does this happen often or no?
Today I moved my lips outward in a funny way and a wire completely hooked the inside of my cheek and it stayed there until I unhooked it with my finger. I felt like a fish that just got caught! Hasn't happened again but that was strange.

Re: Benefits of a waterpick
Cold water or room temperature does tend to hurt. Warm water does not. I fill with straight hot from the tap, add a splash of mouthwash. Turn it on in to the sink for a few seconds, or be prepared for the first little bit to be cold before the warm water gets there. Straight hot from the tap, by th...

Re: Benefits of a waterpick
Miss sensitive teeth (that's me) just ordered a Waterpik! My ortho said it should be OK if I use warm water. If you have ever had sensitive teeth do you find the water blast to be painful? I'm so excited yet apprehensive to try. I use warm water in mine all the time. I've never had a blast of warm ...

Re: Benefits of a waterpick
One question...do you let the water kind of run out of the corner of your mouth as you use it? Or periodically spit it out? Or both? I used it for the first time time tonight and it was interesting. I've never used one before so I used the slow flow tip for now. Both. It depends on what area of the...
