I have tried it, mostly because I was away from home and decided I was hungry, but had forgotten to bring new elastics with. I don't find it very easy, most of the time I end up just taking them out and dealing without them until I get back home.

I do understand your fears and frustrations. I had a severe deep bite, my top teeth completely covered my bottom teeth, and the bottoms were digging into the gums behind my top front teeth when I bit down, not to mention how worn down my teeth are from it. I have not had surgery, and only had one to...

Congrats on your studies abroad! I sort of agree with most of the comments on here. You seem like you are determined to have them off, and it really doesn't make much sense to have them on for 9 months not doing anything. Like others have said, talk with him on your next visit. Let him know that you...

I have 27. Never had wisdom teeth, and had a premolar (is that a bicuspid?) extracted after braces went on.
Most people I know who had braces as kids have about 24 teeth.

I don't think so. I switched jobs during my ortho treatment and I had Delta before, they paid up to 2000 for me. It went straight through my ortho, no reimbursements directly to me. I now have Met Life, but they don't cover adult orthodontics. So I don't have first hand experience, but, insurance co...

Well, I had my regular appointment, and I think I got everything answered. I did get copies of my before and progress pictures, but I still have to scan them in to post them. I will get to that in the next couple of days. Found out the step down in front is to tilt the tooth more vertical. Makes sen...

your arches look great! I know the feeling of "being over" the braces. I am there too. You said you didn't get the braces for crowding or anything, just for cosmetic, but looking at your photos, it does look like you had some crowding because the canines weren't down where they belong. You...

Well I am a little disappointed with my last visit to the ortho. Since it was an "emergency" visit, I did not get to talk to the ortho, but I did voice my concerns to the tech. She only put the excess wire though my back band (had to bend it quite a bit to get it in there too). She did say...

I had 9 of the first 10 brackets fall off in the first week. Found out they were put on wrong somehow. Not sure if they missed a step, or didn't sand them down enough before they put them on. Since they were reapplied, I have only had one break loose (probably the last of the original 10) in 3 1/2 y...

Thanks Lela, I knew there was a reason, just not the specifics. Makes sense though, I know they say that if you have a broken bone and smoke, it takes longer to heal. Maybe has something to do with oxygen levels in your blood or whatever, SMOKING IS BAD, but so hard to quit. Advice to anyone: if you...

Well I go to the ortho tomorrow. I hope she can straighten this "bad" tooth out. It does already have a band on it but the wire hasn't been put through the band, just kind of hanging out under my tooth. It had started to turn out before, but it's really going wonky since the PC went on. I ...

I got to see some of your progress picture, you do look like you have come a long way. Boy, I would be so excited if my ortho started talking about a retainer! Sounds like an end is in sight for you, I can't wait to see the updates!

Well, Powerchain pain is gone. I have had my cheeseburger! Yippy! Now I have a new concern. They haven't been putting my wire through my molar band on the top left side (bad side) of my mouth for a little while now. This last time they (the tech) left it a little long. It didn't really bother me bec...

Twinjoy, I have found out there are a few different surgeries to remove excess gums, depending on the severity of the individual cases. Gingivoplasty is the laser to cut away gum tissue exposing more of the tooth. Flap Surgery, they actually cut the gum tissue away from the bone and move it into pla...
