Jaw popping after surgery
Hi guys, I'm going into 12th week post op and since surgery, every time I open my mouth maybe more than a finger width, my left jaw pops, it also pops moving it side to side. I'm not sure if popping is the right word for it, it doesn't make a noise but I guess it's like one of those hinges where it'...

Re: Recovery has been different
Hi there! Congrats on everything going well thus far! I had the same procedures as you (BSSO, Lefort 1, and genioplasty) and more or less have the same post-op set up, too (one double-band on each side of my mouth, no splint; could "eat" pureed food with a teeny-tiny spoon). Based on this...

Re: Recovery has been different
It sounds like you're having a good recovery. I think (not 100%) that several factors probably play into it. 1. Age of surgeon or whether they are up-to-date with best practices. 2. The extent of the procedure-did you have both upper and lower jaw work? What type of work was done? 3. Surgeon's pref...

Recovery has been different
Hi guys, I just had my double jaw surgery 3 weeks ago and everything is going fine. However am just curious as to why my case is very different to how I found online, firstly, my mouth was not wired shut, however I had 2 rubber bands on the sides for about a week. I'm not sure how I would've survive...

Double Jaw Surgery during Uni?
I'm on a scholarship at uni which requires me to be full time for a year. My surgery looks to be directly in the first semester. I was thinking of doing 3 units which are predominately online and don't require attendance in order to stay fulltime. Obviously I don't want to drop out of the units mid ...

Re: Teeth wearing down
I'm afraid the only practical tips that would possibly help is related to a diet change. Avoid hard and crunchy foods. They do cause unnecessary load on your teeth in their already not so optimal position for function. I avoid hard food anyways, I can't bite on my molars since theres a gap be...

Re: New to braces
Correcting your teeth is suppose to prevent this in the long term. Just make sure your oral hygiene is meticulous and you'll be fine. Goodluck

Re: Molars more painful than the front few teeth after wire changed
I don't think it affects all teeth equally, teeth which go most against the wire experience more pressure and pain. I think it's normal for some teeth to experience more pain than others.

Re: They're on! How do I eat...?
I think for me, the first time having them on and one or two adjustments left me eating liquid/soft foods for a week max. After that (over a year now) they never lasted more than a day, sometimes I could eat normally straight away. I can eat anything and everything :)

Re: Should i call my Ortho office?
chains are pretty painful, more so when they put it on. How many days has it been? Maybe you should call your dentist and see what he wants to do (after waiting a bit). I have a gap right in the middle of my lower teeth aswell, I've had chains for nearly 6 weeks now and it has barely done anything w...

Teeth wearing down
Hi guys, I've had braces for over a year now and also need jaw surgery. My teeth are become straight and just need to close a few gaps but the alignment of my teeth means that some teeth at the top hit my bottom teeth and are beginning to wear down. For example, here's a picture of my right canine, ...

Re: What should I do?
Do you think there could be a way to accelerate the treatment?
I've had them for a year now and if I go second semester, this gives me another 5-6 months without surgery yet.
How long before they start brace treatment again after surgery?
Thanks
