Re: Open bite after jaw surgery
This happened to me as well after upper jaw surgery, only I now have a posterior open bite on both sides. Had braces removed over a year ago and am getting braces again on Monday. I am terrified that my bite won't remain this time. Could a Positioner after treatment help retain the bite? I'm despera...

Re: Adults With metal braces - are you happy with your choice?
I initially had a combination of clear and metal braces when I first got braces 3 years ago. I'll be getting braces again on Monday (oh joy of joys) and I went with all metal: the metal ones are smaller, more comfortable, and are more durable, all of which are important since I now have 9 crowns, 8 ...

Re: Back in Braces again after removal and jaw surgery
Hey, I remember your story from a while back. Sorry to hear about your luck with your treatment and I really just wanted to leave some sort of message to offer you support. I hope everything goes well, I can't imagine what it's like to go through this. Thank you, I deeply appreciate that. It's hard...

Re: Your thoughts
I am going back into braces again on Monday after jaw surgery: both my dentist and orthodontist said that I have had some surgical relapse (I had upper jaw surgery), and that is with diligent retainer wear. Unfortunately, retainers do not prevent relapse of posterior open bites, as I am experiencing...

Back in Braces again after removal and jaw surgery
Hello everyone, I had my last retainer appointment under my original contract today. At that appointment, I was told that while my retainers fit perfectly (and I diligently wear them so this is no surprise), my posterior open bite on both sides is even worse than it was 6 months ago, with only my to...

Re: Sorry, Should have said February 2014 surgery buddies
I seriously doubt this is a surgical relapse to warrant surgery. I don't think you can operate on the jaw to lower it down so it touches the bottom teeth, or to raise the lower teeth to meet the upper teeth. The surgery fixes the skeletal problem but the orthodontist is supposed to fix the bite. I s...

Re: Sorry, Should have said February 2014 surgery buddies
Bumping in case any of my surgery buddies are still around? Wow! You're over a year and a half post op! I've been trying to catch up on the thread and it sounds like you had a helluva time during recovery. How have things been since your braces came off and...just everything? I remember reading tha...

Re: Cold Water with Hawley Retainers...
Yes. You can drink pretty much anything with your hawleys (I do), although I wouldn't drink any hot beverages because if they're too hot, they can potentially change the retainer shape.

After surgery, and starting one week post-op, I started seeing my ortho once per week for around 8 weeks.

$6,895 + an additional $175 for the new Essix bottom retainer I just decided to get. All out of pocket.

Re: How much did your teeth move after getting your braces off and wearing your retainer?
Samoorelaw~ my comments were just general, not to anyone in particular... but I find it interesting that he said you are wearing your retainers too much. So, if the plan is for your teeth to settle.. you wear the retainers less... when you put them back in, they are snug...how is that going to help...

Re: How much did your teeth move after getting your braces off and wearing your retainer?
They only way to keep your teeth from shifting is to wear your retainers. It should be life long retainer wear once the brackets come off. I've worn my everyday since getting them off in August of 2013. Just make it apart of your life and your beautiful smile will be with you until the end. :D And ...

Braces4AquariousChic has well over 100 videos about braces that were super-helpful throughout my braces journey. She's also very sweet and personable.

Re: Chewing Gum
My ortho is against it but I chewed sugar-free gum anyway and had no issues. I even chew sugar-free gum while wearing my upper retainer and it's been fine.
