I don't know how the Hyrax will affect your speech but I have upper and lower linguals and am also a teacher. For the first couple of weeks I had a bit of a lisp and sounded slightly different. (Some people noticed, others didn't until it was pointed out). I have had my braces on for nearly 6 weeks ...

Took some photos yesterday (a little blurry!) and I can definitely see some movement in my upper teeth. Not so much in my lowers which is annoying as they were pretty straight to begin with and I was hoping to get my lower braces taken off relatively quickly! http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/8075/...

I have bought myself a Waterpik and used it today for the first time. My whole bathroom is now completely covered in water! I am slightly concerned though as despite using the "gentle" cleaning nozzle my gums bled quite a lot. Is that normal? Does that mean that my oral hygiene so far has not been g...

I think it took me about 2 weeks to sound a lot better. I still lisp on a few words particularly when I talk fast or if I've been talking a lot. I work as a secondary school teacher and was very anxious about talking in front of my pupils thinking that they wouldn't be very kind about my speech. A l...

I paid £4,500 UK for upper and lower linguals. The main reason I went for linguals was that I'm a school teacher and didn't really want to look like a pupil! I was also thinking that nobody would know I have braces but my lisp has made it obvious something is up. I'm like theprettyone in that nobod...

Thanks! It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one with this problem, although I also feel for anyone who is also having trouble chewing!

Rolo- thanks for the hint about Nigella's chocolate pudding, chocolate mousse has been my pick-me-up :D

Just made it through my first week back at school with braces. I was hoping that since my lingual braces are not visible my pupils would never find out about them! Unfortunately, I still have a bit of a lisp so about 10 minutes into my first lesson on Monday one of my pupils puts her hand up and ask...

Difficult to chew!

A quick question: I've been wearing my linguals for nearly 3 weeks and am still having trouble chewing. I've got molar build-ups so my teeth don't meet which I think is the main problem but chewing is also a bit uncomfortable still. I've noticed lots of people on this forum say that chewing helps so...

I've had my linguals on for nearly 3 weeks now. I still have a slight lisp but my speech has vastly improved since the first week. They do still sometimes rub my tongue, mainly when I've been talking a lot!

Hang in there, it will get better! :)

Congratulations on getting braced! :D

My orthodontist never mentioned flossing either, I guess it's a US/UK difference
