My teeth were VERY tight when I was braced and I couldn't floss some teeth for several days. From what I understand, this is fairly common. However, if you go a week and still can't floss, you might have glue between your teeth and should head back to the ortho for them to get it off. Congrats on be...

Ha, no. Braces didn't impact the romance between myself and my boyfriend. But while I could do most everything else, kissing deeply has always felt awkward with braces. So it's been two years of quick, light smooches (and other stuff) but no deep kisses.

I look forward to the return of that. :D

I'm not sure when the bridge will be happening. I will have to start the process right away (I put aside money in my flex spending account at work so I need to get things completed within this calendar year or I lose that moola!) -- first thing I have to do is get the tooth pulled and a gum graft in...

shinyRiver Yay for us! It's very exciting to be at the end, especially since I had gotten to the point where I felt I would have my braces forever. I'm not too worried about the bridge--it's what the situation is and I'm sure it will look fine. Or fine-ish. What I am worried about is the gum graft ...

Just keep in mind that even if things don't work out now, that won't prevent you from getting braces later on. You won't always be at the mercy of your parents.

Hang in there!

Well, it has been some time, hasn't it! I stopped writing about my progress and posting pictures for a while because, well, I was getting very frustrated with my treatment. From about June-ish last year until January of this year, I didn't get any new wires. I didn't get any powerchains. I didn't ge...

I lost about 20 lbs over the course of the first year. This had less to do with my braces and more to do with my impacted canine exposure surgery (it was in the roof of my mouth) and the build-up on my teeth to keep me from biting down all the way. This wasn't really a good thing because I was thin ...

My top arch was braced first; I got my lower arch braced six months later. My ortho did this because she needed to make progress in correcting my deep bite before putting on the lowers; if she hadn't, I would have been biting off my brackets.

You should try going to a dental school if you have one in your area. You won't get a discount but they are usually a lot cheaper than a private practice ortho.

To keep your dentist honest? Why do you think everyone is out to cheat you? That must be an exhausting way to go through life.

As I sit here eating the crust of my pizza slice, I am trying to think of a food that I have trouble eating. Hmmm. There really aren't many. Biting into an apple doesn't work (although slices are just fine) and I have stayed away from saltwater taffy. But pretty much everything else I can eat; it's ...

Lola! I had an impacted canine waaaaaay up in the roof of my mouth and I had it exposed when I was 36. The dentist, oral surgeon and ortho were all very skeptical about it being able to come down; they figured it was fused to the bone. Well, it took over a year but it made it down!

They're expensive but buying Ensure shakes to supplement what your eating is a good idea. They have calories and vitamins that you desperately need. It can't be all you take in though; definitely just a supplement. I've been through molar build ups, painful teeth and tooth exposure surgery so I know...
